RIP and thank you, Dennis. Your brilliant acting gave us all so much pleasure over the years.
74 is no age nowadays but he lived a life and did some truly great work. The Sweeney was truly groundbreaking and Minder is the best comedy drama ever.

Heard about this terrible news while at the Talking Pictures TV event in St Albans today, having seen Dennis up on screen in several clips including one from Minder (to introduce Linda Regan onto the stage). Shocking that Dennis has gone at the relatively young age of 74. So sad and too soon. RIP. An actor who always delivered and was of course intrinsic to the success of Minder and The Sweeney.

I don't see this 'no words' thing. I have words. Like 'bloody hell' and 'there goes another part of our youth'. It's going to be a hell of a party up there with Arthur and Dave with possibly Jack Regan popping in and seeing if they can get Haskins p***ed. RIP Dennis.

Well, I see that day as come. I didn't expect it soon, to be honest. He really looked like he would live until he was 80. RIP Dennis Waterman. Clearly we wouldn't all be here on this website, if it wasn't for him, along with George Cole.

Very sad news. ITV should clear some of their schedule this week and show some of the hugely popular series that Dennis made for showing on ITV.
R.I.P. Dennis - we'll all continue watching you for as long as we can.

Very sad news indeed. Dennis Waterman alongside George Cole made Minder what it was a brilliant comedy drama. At least Arthur will have his Minder Terry back with him and George and Regan can continue to catch those villains. RIP.

I am stunned to see this news. Unlike most of you I have only been familiar with Terry and Carter for about six years. Very sad. He was great as both characters and his place in the history of U.K. Television is more than secure.
Rest In Peace Mr. Waterman. Many Thanks for all the entertainment. Cheers Mate!

A hero has left us. Inspired so many to join the police as Carter. Gutted, so few Minder actors left with us now - Dennis was superb in pretty much everything he appeared in. R.I.P. Our Dennis Inspiring people to join the police is a fine legacy.

Sad news - RIP Dennis. I expect John and George have a drink or two lined up for the reunion. Half a lager and a bottle of scotch, but just down to the label.

Like Arthur, Tel will always be there for us lads, Everday on the tele.... Could be ironing out that Scum Borstal warder and Paper-pulp bully into the river, or watching in disbelief at Arthur and his army oppo and snapdragon on the stage, or kicking a ball about with a little basin haired lad from Bradford in a green gola tracksuit. The son he never had but loved.
We absolutely Loved you Dennis. We absolutely did.

I've seen him described as underrated as an actor but it's difficult to argue with 3 hit TV series under the belt. I'm sure there's many a thespian who'd give their eye teeth for the same. I'd tip the nod to his performance in The Lives and Loves of a She Devil as well. Not everyone's cup of tea to be sure but he's really good as the venal, seedy husband, very different to the cheery cockney roles he was normally associated with at the time.

Still a bit shocked by that news.
It seems very fresh in my mind when Dennis visited George the day before he died, and talked about their last little meeting together. It was less than 7 years ago after all. Now they are both gone. Not forgotten that is for sure.
A Sweeney and Minder marathon commences. It's been a little while. I'll go through every episode as usual, this time I'll stop in 1989.
As someone might once have said, Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, and bung this lot in the boot...

Had decided to cut grass, trim hedges plant trees all day so had no access to news.
Yesterday I did my habitual weekly walk past the old winchester club on portland road....never once doing that walk passing that building do i not think of Minder...however fleetingly....yesterday i thought of scotch harry being dumped out there and Terry ever the saint putting him in the car .
Just came indoors and heard the news. .Absolutely gutted :-( 74 is no age these days had hoped to see him in stuff for more years.
Rest in Peace Dennis.

Very sad news and out of the blue. I always looked forward to watching anything Dennis Waterman was in whilst growing up in the 70s/80s and happily sought out any other productions that he appeared in in later years. In Minder and Sweeney, DW has left us with two of the most iconic, well remembered and much loved TV programmes to have been screened.
Sad, sad day - RIP Dennis Waterman.
