I watched this one last night thought it was a bit silly I didn't like the Dave and Arthur falling out stuff I liked how Ray would not take sides though came across as the most sensible out of everyone in this episode I agree it is not the best Minder story but I still don't mind it. I think you are right that Ray is indeed the sensible one in this and this could easily have been a Terry story, with him remaining impartial (but thinking Arthur is an idiot) with a bust up between old pals Dave and Arthur. This one perhaps plays a bit too much on the good old days. It is nice to see Arthur & Dave make up at the end though and it is clear that good pals always win through and that it is Toby who is the dodgy character of the piece.
A second appearance in Minder by James Booth in this one, and lots of filming along Church Road again. The place where Dave meets Arthur is right alongside where Terry goes for lunch with Angie in "An Officer & A Car Salesman".

I watched this today and didn't mind it at all. It is easy to pick fault in this, but the older you get you do think back to your youth that little bit more, especially with rose tinted specs on and for me I would love to see someone come up with a script for a series with young Arthur.
I like the nostalgic feel in certain RD episodes and this one was good as it pitted Arthur against Dave, unthinkable really but we have all tested friendships over the years by acting silly at times and it is the measure of a true friendship as to how you come out the other side. Arthur without Dave is unthinkable as he is pretty much the nearest Arthur has to a responsible person in his life, Dave is the one constant in MInder who never lets you down and he came to Arthurs aid when he had been shafted by Toby. A friend in need is indeed a pest, but Dave is a gent whose character keeps the spirit of Minder alive throughout all the series.
I like the line where Dave speaks about 'pulling feathers from a frog' and I am sure the barman Dermot, was the sidekick of Dirty Den in the Paradise Club.

I watched this one, this week, I really enjoyed it, in fact I've loved this particular series. What I kept thinking though was how on earth did Arthur set up a pub and get it running in literally a day and then stop it all just as quick, was it just a derelect building, what about the licenses etc, haha

I think the pub which Arthur opened was previously a pub, so was easy enough to set up, must have taken some effort and cash though, but I didn't let that get in the way of a good episode.

Last 2 episodes of Series 9 scheduled in for me tomorrow, then onto Series 10 as well, I'll be gutted when I get to the end, Series 9 has been my fav so far.
I've been racking my brains to what I've seen James Booth in before, and atlast just remembered, a cool film called the Bliss of Mrs Blossom.

I'm sure I shall jno. I always liked the RD Minder, as it got me back into Minder and as posted previously a lot of these episodes hold up well against the TM years and bear in mind it was different times.

I'm not sure what I think of this one. I felt Arthur acted like an idiot and should have known Dave was an upright guy despite anything he may have done as kid. If Dave wanted to shaft Arthur he has had plenty of excuses to do so through out the series. Dave has stuck by Arthur when most people would have dropped him like a hot rock or grassed him to the Bill. Arthur doubting Dave seemed to out of character to me.

I think it was an episode to show Arthur in a bad light. We all love Dave, who wouldn't want a friend like him when the chips are down? In the end Arthur realised the error of his ways and they made up, but not without giving us a few laughs first.

The episode feels like an experiment that wasn't entirely successful. We did get some background on Arthur and Dave which is a good thing. It's not one of my favorite episodes but it is not unwatchable.

I enjoyed this episode. You knew all along Dave and Arthur couldn’t stay at loggerheads for long.

Not a bad one this, but not a classic. I didn’t really enjoy the fallout of Arthur and Dave. I was definitely on Dave’s side, and Arthur was out of order. I love the idea of the Backhanders gang, but Toby Jug was probably one the most annoying characters Minder has seen!

I agree this one is mid ranking. It has some plus points and some weak spots. First half is weak but then it redeems itself in the second half. James Booth always has a different look and plays a very different character in his appearances in Minder and the Sweeney.
I like the atmosphere they created at this stage. Arthur having his barber shop to go to regularly was a good touch. What a place to hang out for an hour getting yourself groomed, a little nip of whiskey, a coffee and reliving the old days.
This is the third time in Minder that they are outside Wormwood scrubs picking someone up at the end of their stint inside.
Of course we get to see Loftus road in this one. Looking bigger than it probably is, and newly kitted out as an all seater, ready for the inaugural premier league season. QPR were top 5 at the time. Ray says he is an Arsenal man I think.

Absolutely hilarious at “Arthur’s Palace” when too much pressure goes into the beer kegs and blows the taps in the bar, driving the punters away!

Alan Macdonald, Les Ferdinand, Andy Sinton what a solid outfit Rangers had at that time

Watached this last night; a bit disappointing I felt. Six episodes into S9 and we’ve had four crackers, and 2 pretty ropy outings.
The presence of Dave and Doreen, and the continuity of Arthur visiting his barber, pushes this up to average for me, but there’s not a lot else to commend it.
James Booth’s previous Minder appearance seemed to go down pretty badly, overall, on this forum - but I found him much more annoying here, where he overplayed the character to the point of farce at times. A shame, because he is a generally reliable performer, particular his casting as Kenny Ames in S2 of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet where his performance is near-perfect.

Not a fan of James Booths appearences in Minder..if Im right he was in the s6 opener playing a similar wrong un...and this is more of the same though less annoying and with a convincing backstory reference the backhanders gang....in fact if im right Booth also played a work shy shirker in the Michael Caine movie about Rourke's drift..Dave and Arthur falling out was sad to see..but i enjoyed the mafioso theme ( a recurring theme in the Ray years) when Arthur and Dave make up in the restaraunt meeting. Another solid watchable episode..

Saw this one today possibly for the first time and I didn't much like it. I dislike when they suddenly invent a whole backstory that not only never previously existed but also goes against things that were said or impressions given in previous episodes. We know there's not much continuity in Minder which is a shame but this got much worse in the Ray era IMO

Yes I agree with most the folks here that this is not top notch. It's "nice" in that everyone forgives Arthur for behaving like a plonker towards Dave, and the overall atmosphere is good. We get some more back story and another Daley clever idea goes up in smoke. It's different but we certainly couldn't bear many of these type of episodes. So not a classic but above average, so Good.
