Very sad news, such a talented musician. Seen him play live at Falmouth 9 or 10 years ago. A mate at work bumped into him and he said he was a lovely guy.

A great talent but truthfully it is only surprising he was around into his 50s. He always seemed to have a self destructive streak that wasnt just a pose but built into him. The last Screaming Trees album Dust is one of the best albums of the 90s, rock or otherwise, still sounds like nothing else. I bought the first three solo albums and Scraps At Midnight - the third - is the one I kept and still listen to and love. He may have been seen as somehere in the same territory as Nick Cave but I think Lanegan was the greater artist. RIP

In one of his last interviews, he mentioned how much he loved Nick Cave. He also mentioned he listens to ambient music, reggae, and likes watching Criterion films on his laptop. He also looked like he was using a cane, so not sure what he had going on medically.
