www.BBC.co.uk/sport/football/59480532 Liverpool (and former Arsenal) great Ray Kennedy has died after a very long battle with Parkinson's. He was a member of possibly the greatest Liverpool team in the late 70s and early 80s. Sad news.

I had to double check because I had sworn he had died years ago, and thought about a report on Saint & Greavsie from 30 something years ago. It was actually he had Parkinson's for 37 years which is a huge amount of time to live with such a serious illness. Needless to say he didn't get a very long, full life after leaving the game.

Yes I remember hearing about his diagnosis and had also presumed he'd died some years back, to the extent when I saw the headline "Liverpool great Kennedy dies" I assumed it was his namesake Alan. He did well to live for so long with the condition, although it seems not without considerable difficulty. Great shame.

RIP Ray, not a well man for a long time. I am often surprised how little some players played for their country.

He was my Dad’s favourite player from the 70s. He was hugely underrated but was the first name on the team sheet for Bob Paisley. I was fortunate to see him many times and he had an incredible knack of anticipating where and when an attack might develop.
RIP Ray - one of the very best to wear the red shirt.

Thanks, jno - the fact he managed to live with Parkinsons for 37 years is no mean feat. What’s probably not well known is that a small group of Liverpool fans kept on fundraising for him doing charity walks to all 92 league grounds and the like.

Did the double with Arsenal in 70-71 lest it be forgotten, only the 2nd team to do so at the time. Often Liverpool signings of that era were from clubs lower down the divisions where after signing for 'pool players would reach astonishing heights. Top scorer for the Gunners in 3 separate seasons Shankly thought at first that as Arsenal were prepared to sell that he must have been carrying a serious injury. One of those players I remember from the Panini sticker albums from back in the day and another of the Liverpool greats gone.
I read an article from Souness who said he wasn't the greatest at anything, but was good at everything and that was why he was a first pick for Bob Paisley.
RIP
