Very sad news. A true Liverpool FC Legend, the first Footballer to score a Goal on Match of the Day, in 1964, also the first Liverpool Footballer to score a Goal for Liverpool, in a FA Cup Final, in 1965, the first time that Liverpool won the FA Cup. Roger Hunt and Ian St John (who died earlier this year), formed a great strike partnership for Liverpool, in the 1960's. Roger Hunt, was of course part of England's 1966 World Cup winning squad, and scored three Goals, in the Group Stage. R.I.P. Roger Hunt. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10036995/Roger-Hunt-scored-Match-Days-goal-1964.htmlwww.BBC.co.uk/sport/football/58717157

My dad always raved about him and said he was better than Ian Rush so he must have been good.
RIP to a Liverpool legend.
YNWA.

Liverpool's record league scorer also, even though I'm too young to have seen him and Jimmy Greaves also it's a shame 'Premier League' records get all the media attention. These players built the legend of their clubs from the ground up. Shame on the modern PL era.

Spent the last 18 months of his career at Bolton Wanderers. Saw him score a hat trick against Birmingham City in November 1970 at the old Burnden Park. Great strikers never lose the knack of scoring goals.

When you have to watch a rubbish team week after week and see strikers on the pitch who couldn't hit a coo's back side with a banjo, you really appreciate the guys like Roger Hunt, Jimmy Greaves, etc, etc who made it all look so effortless.
Never seen the man play, but his record speaks volumes and like most other top strikers from that era, would have scored even more for their clubs in the modern game.
Guys like Hunt, Greaves and Muller, who have all passed away this year might not have become millionaires off the back of the exploits in football, but the respect they have throughout football is something no modern player will ever have.
RIP

He was a truly great player. As a kid I was privileged to be at his testimonial all those years ago. It was good to see contemporaries like Ian Callaghan and Gordon Milne taking part in the service in the Cathedral today. I was looking at the live feed on the Liverpool Echo app, they reported at the time that somebody called Jimmy Starbucks was also taking part. Poor old Jimmy Tarbuck lost in a transmission error, or maybe some young kid operating the app had never heard of him. But sad about Sir Roger Hunt.
