As suggested by billyfarmer (many thanks for preparing the list too!) This is part 1 of a Grange Hill Death Match with teachers coming soon in Part 2 - who was your favourite Grange Hill pupil?Pick 3 answers!

I voted for Peter "Tucker" Jenkins, Gordon "Jonah" Jones and Samuel "Zammo" Maguire. I was disappointed that Gordon "Jonah" Jones, only appeared in two series of Grange Hill, wasn't until years later, that I found out (via the internet) the reason for Jonah's departure - grangehillgold.wordpress.com/features/drowning-the-truth/

Even though he was the school bully and everyone feared for him, there was a bit of you that felt sorry for him. I also had a bit if a crush on Fay in the 80s!

I never really watched Grange Hill. I’m a bit stuck on this.

To be honest I'd forgotten a lot of the characters so it's good of see a list of them again.
I voted for 'Gonch' - I seem to remember he always had a money making scheme on the go so a little bit of Arthur in him maybe.
Danny Kendall - one i'd forgotten all about but I liked the fact that he really couldn't give a sh$t about school or the teachers and wasn't afraid to show it.
Calley Donnington - Looked awesome in a school uniform.

I'm trying to picture Michael Doyle. Wasn't he Tuckers' arch enemy or something?

I think I started work after Series 5 and never saw the later episodes. Tucker Jenkins seemed to be the rock on which the series was built, so he got a vote, as did his female nemesis Trisha Yates. I also gave a vote to Cathy Hargreaves because I thought that actress Lindy Brill was quite pretty in an understated sort of way.

Remember him now Definitely a slippery looking Git! I'm sure this question hs been asked many times before but do we know how many of these guys went onto have an acting career in adulthood? Obviously Todd Carty, Sue Tully and the guy 'Robbie?' who appeared in London's Burning but were there many others?

Paula Ann Bland (Claire Scott), continued acting after she left Grange Hill, her last acting credit (listed on IMDb), was in 1994. Lee MacDonald (Samuel "Zammo" McGuire), was acting before Grange Hill, and has continued to act since. There are bound to be some other Actors and Actresses, who continued acting after they left Grange Hill.

I'm sure there was a programme made some years ago in which some of the Grange Hill cast were tracked down. I'm sure that Lee MacDonald was running a locksmith/key cutting shop in East London somewhere and Eric Mustafa was running a record stall. There were also a couple of the cast who were tracked down but didn't want to take part as they no longer wanted to be associated with GH.

That waa Bring Back Grange Hill with Justin Lee Collins. I'm sure it's on YT if you do a search.
You're right barry, I remember some of the former cast really didn't want to talk about Grange Hill anymore.

As someone who started Secondary School in autumn 1976, I was roughly the same sort of age as the first onscreen intake of Grange Hill. So, inevitably, I had to vote for Tucker, Trisha and Cathy. There were some others that I almost voted for (a couple for all the wrong reasons!), but, for me, the originals were the best. Wanted to be Tucker; wanted to, er, 'go out with' Trisha and Cathy... preferably at the same time.

I always, genuinely, saw myself as Tucker. A bit of a clown, a bit unkempt, cheeky to the teachers, a small group of misfit friends, a couple of enemies, occasionally successful with girls but usually seen as a dreamer who hated sports and not taken seriously by most people. One or two people learned to their cost that it had been a mistake to underestimate me. I suppose I was a 'safe' rebel. I didn't want to cause any 'real' trouble, just push my luck as far as I could. Having said all this, since this had been my modus operandi since before I saw Grange Hill, I'll guess that Tucker was probably based on me. In the 1980s I became more of an Alan... F@t b@astard who ate too much... but now I'm more of a Bullet Baxter... miserable old sod with a beard and not enough hair. The wheel turns.
(I've got a picture of myself somewhere from about 1976. If I can find it I'll post it... then you can see what I mean...)

Obviously and goes without saying, an awesome show, for a very long time. I watched it for years after leaving school! Tucker an obvious contender, Benny for his unique ways of getting around being bullied and not being able to afford football boots and having a good head on his shoulders. Trisha & Cathy were also great characters, as mentioned some later characters were also great - in particular Danny.
Also, don’t forget that a certain Mark Farmer who played Cathy’ s brother.

Gordon Bennett, some of those names bring back memories! Grange Hill was my favourite programme back in the day, and I was a year or two younger than most of the characters when the show started in '78.
I voted for Tucker, Zammo, and Roland. I always had a soft spot for Roland. My fourth choice would have been Suzanne Ross played by Sue Tully who has gone on to have a distinguished career as a director and producer.

I voted for Jackie Wright as I loved him in Benny Hill. Only joking I meant the Melissa Wilks character who I thought was very nice watching the show as a young fellow in the 80s.

Tucker, Alan and Bennie for me. The originals.
Great series, Grange Hill. Ground breaking really.
ps. I wish I knew then what I know now. I'd have saved myself and others a lot of pain and suffering, I can tell you.

Not sure if people are aware but Terry Sue-Patt who played Benny died a few years ago, aged fifty.
Not quite sure of the circumstances but he was laid dead in his flat for several weeks before he was discovered. I thought he was great in Grange Hill but his acting career seemed to peter out soon thereafter and, reading between the lines, I'm not sure he really found a fulfilling alternative in adult life. Sad really.

Tucker Jenkins was the iconic one - the face of Grange Hill. Gripper Stebson I thought was excellent - the actor who played him is obscure but he was clinical. Possibly the nasiest and loathsome character (but well-played) on telly, And Jackie Wright because she was gorgeous...
