I think The Adventurer would have been more successful if they had fired Gene Barry and kept Stuart Damon.
He was also good in the 'Mindbender' episode of UFO, as an egotistical actor with a swelling between the ears! These kind of sequences (and the more surreal ones that followed) helped to remind us that SHADO HQ was beneath a fully functioning film studio. I recently bought a DVD containing four episodes of Space: 1999 Year 2 (The Seance Spectre, The Lamda Factor and Bringers of Wonder pts. 1 and 2). I shall watch Bringers of Wonder tonight. I was planning on watching Thriller again this summer - last watched it in 2006 - so I might have a look for his episode this weekend too.

Oh no, this is sad news. I loved The Champions and in all those interviews Stuart Damon comes across as a genuinely good guy.
I can't believe that nypost link that felix put up doesn't mention The Champions. Sorry, but WT actual F?!
I agree with fordcapri - Stuart Damon would have been better as The Adventurer and they should have booted off that plonker who tries to act that treated him so badly. A complete nob that shafted Stuart Damon - screw him. Stuart Damon was head and shoulders above rubbish like that and even doing his stand-up in his bad period, we watched him and liked the bloke, even if the act was dodgy.
RIP Stuart ... thank you for what you gave us, you're different, so very different

Sorry to hear this. In America he would be best known for the soap opera, General Hospital. Here we know him for the really good stuff he did.
Rest In Peace

R.I.P. Stuart Damon. He was also in 'The Saint' episode that is said to have influenced 'The Persuaders'.

I was sorry to hear this news. When searching a few months ago to see if Stuart was still active, I came across an article which mentioned he and other retired actors often met up in a coffee shop to shoot the breeze. Then more recently I read of Stuart presenting a show on luxury homes with his son.
As the 1970s progressed I think work was less forthcoming for Stuart in the UK and he will have made the right decision to return to the States. He said on The Champions reunion DVD he was more or less broke when he left these shores and only had a six month contract when he joined General Hospital. However, it was good to read of him staying long-term in the show and hopefully making a decent living.
You certainly got the impression Stuart was one of the nice guys of showbiz and I agree he would have been a far better fit for The Adventurer than Gene Barry, being tall, good-looking and with an easy charm. Gene Barry may have been a bigger name (though by the 70s, to whom I've no idea) but the idea of young women fluttering around GB was ludicrous as he looked like someone's grandpa.
Whereas Stuart was handsome, smooth without being unctuous, and being only 35 when The Adventurer was made, he could have convincingly handled any action scenes. He reminded me a bit of Roger Moore, albeit Stuart's character in The Saint was brasher than Craig Stirling to contrast with Simon Templar. One of the good guys gone.
