Caught this on ITV4 today and during the scene of self inflicted breaking into Terrys flat so he can phone Arthur about Jones sniffing around, you can count 14 empty lager cans in the kitchen and sitting room so self inflicted could certainly put some away. Btw, the Carlsberg cans are obvious enough but can anyone identify the blue and white ones? The blue cans say K2 and have a picture of a mountain on them. No me neither. Google says it was a Fullers product, and there are images in the Canmuseum. www.canmuseum.com/Detail.aspx?CanID=92300Oh my good gawd, that is major research there BMW, well done, love it. ‘I thought you said it was cosher?’ ‘It Is’ ‘Then why are you oh-my-good-gawding it?’ 🤣🤣🤣 Superb episode from start to finish. Strong smell of petrol round 'ere?

A few points - This one is definitely up there as one of the best. Even when it starts off with Arthur being miserable and hating putting his hand in his pocket to buy a drink - I hate seeing Arthur driving that crappy Granada - Some great lines in this one.....Something needs to be done with Self inflicted, like what a stomach pump !

Brilliant episode one of my top 3. Has an exhilarating feel reminds me a little of the gold chains episode of only fools and horses the same year in that respect . Arthur's anguished "gaaaawd" when he peers out of the van window and sees Rycott :-) and the scene when Rycott falls through the roof just brilliant...just a perfect episode...top cast of Roy Kinnear,Steve McFadden and of course Self Inflicted and Justin. Season 7 was just perfection and I just wish it had been 13 episodes. It all ended so abruptly.

Really good episode, and while in many ways it's too soon after Waiting for Goddard to have a return for Ronnie Fraser, he was always fabulous, so why not? Self-Inflicted Sid is a great character and the character name itself is wonderful.
If there's a weakness it's that it misses Patrick Malahide and the 'plod' line-up is therefore not as strong IMO.
Great to see Roy Kinnear in this episode but I expected more from his character in terms of screen time. Never good to waste Roy Kinnear who was always so brilliant.
Those last two points are what nudges this down from an Excellent to a (Very) Good for me.

But I really like it when Taff becomes a DS and is extremely sarcastic to Rycott, I would say even condescending at times as you get the impression he knows he's on the way up and Ronnie, well, isn't .

It's very good and there's a lot of story crammed into the episode - all very cleverly - flows very nicely. But maybe a bit too much - could have done with a bit more to and fro banter in a few places instead? Poor ol' Terry getting the brush off in the launderette. The battle between the cops is fun but I do miss Mr Chisholm - appreciate that may just be me but no one can be quite as convincingly obsessed as Patrick Malahide. So just a 4 from me.

IMHO, An Officer and a Car Salesman gets a 3 (and we can only score between 1 and 5, innit?). So "average" - nothing I've seen up to series 7 ranks as "poor" or "rubbish". Maybe at the lower end of average but I can't rank it as poor - although others clearly can. But it would be boring if we all agreed with each other!

Been watching Minder from the start again and onto series seven, which is a series I haven't watched much.
Have to agree with what has been said already about this episode and a shout out about Ronald Fraser and how good he was as Sid.
A total contrast to the character of his previous role in the series.
However, I don't like what they did with Rycott in this series.
Chisholm has gone and if being honest, his character did become a little silly and feel they have tried to make Rycott into the same type of laughing stock character as Chisholm was
I always felt the Rycott character was more darker than Chisholm and should have left him like that.

Stellar cast and good storyline makes this a great start to Series 7. The lack of warmth between Arthur and Terry at the beginning made me wonder whether it was picking up from the downbeat ending of Series 6, but given the two year gap between series, I don't think that was the intention. Arthur's lockup did indeed look very forlorn, and references to getting older did sort of hint that Arthur was no longer the force that he once was, this theme being reinforced by the scene of Terry in the laundrette. I missed Chisholm big time, and didn't enjoy the inter-plod rivalry in this episode. Ronald Fraser and Roy Kinnear were big plusses though and, as ever, I thoroughly enjoyed the locations portraying the slightly less seemly parts of West London. One mistake in the dialogue, was when Morrie was talking about not wanting to have to go after his creditors - he should have said "debtors".

In the photo of Terry in the launderette, the newspaper headline 'Ferry Blazes In The Channel' may refer to the incident below in July 1988. If that is indeed correct, it means that it was filmed just two months before Roy Kinnear’s tragic death after falling from a horse on a Spanish film-set in September 1988. I can still remember that sad news breaking - it was about the same time as the Ben Johnson drugs scandal at the Seoul Olympics. Such an enjoyable episode, this one.
