Do kids today still read comics? Good question, I don't see many that do, then again I am not looking.

As I was leaving the newsagents this morning with the paper, inspired by this thread, I paused to look at the be price of comics now...A Beano is now £3.75! When I first bought the Beano it was around 1984/85 when I was nine and it was 10p back then.... £3.75! how often does it come out? It must be once a month? It can’t be weekly at that price. Insane inflation!

Still weekly! If you think £10 now would have been like a quid back then! Star was figures were £1.25 then, they are a tenner now

My uncle Arthur has no idea of the concept of inflation, in 1996 he went into a newsagents and picked up a put of 65p model paint, then put it down and walked out,as in 1966 the same shop had charged a shilling!!

Not on the list but Shoot was the only one I regularly bought as a kid. I’d read most of the list and as I got older I was a Smash Hits reader for a few years in the golden age of music c1980

I used to read Shoot! in the 80s. Great stuff. I’m currently 16 editions off a full collection of all 120 TV Tops magazines, not sure I’ll ever have the full collection though.

Another fan of 'Shoot' here too.
No 'Viz' on the list? I know it's not aimed at kids but we all used to read it at secondary school when I was maybe 14 so around 1986. My friend even got his kids' bus pass in the name of "Finbarr Saunders" 'cos all you had to do was pick up a form from the school office, fill it in yourself with whatever name you liked and take it down the bus station.

I think Viz deserves a thread of it's own (if not already on here) given the membership's age and probable exposure to it. I can even recall some of the t shirt ads. "Doris, don't you think you're spoiling that dog" has stuck in my mind since the late 80s when I started reading it at Uni.

I was spoilt for comics as a kid. My aunt bought me all the DC Thompsons Beano and Dandy and others and the Fleetway ones - Buster, Whizzer and Chips. I read them all cover-to-cover but I loved Roy of the Rovers and Tiger the most...

My mate jungle boogie still subscribes to VIZ, which is pretty ironic as I always think of him when I hear about VIZ....
Back in the summer of 1991 I was 15, I had been on one of my step dads marathon booze and tobacco runs to France and Coming home that night, we found dirty Ivan at the front door, telling us that his younger brother, satan Neil, was in hospital.
It turned out that the 11 year old satan had spent the afternoon over jungle boogies, then aged 13, Jungle boogie had opened his bedroom window, and fired a shot from his air rifle. Satan Neil was laying on the floor, reading a copy of VIZ and was laughing! Jungle boogie turned around to see what he was laughing at, tripped over satans feet, fell on him and the gun went off, sending a pellet into the side of Satan's head ,at point blank range!
Satan was so stupid,he said "look! There's blood on your comic! I don't remember it being there before!"
A night in hospital and a couple of stitches later and he was fine luckily!
