The Car Lot Baggers.
Question - could someone please tell me car Jimmy Nail drives in the above episode, as it's driving me mad. Is it a Jenson C-V8 because it looked similar from the front.

I liked the early scene, where Arthur was drinking a pot of Earl Gray Tea, with an opened Milk Bottle on the table.
Sums him up!

Just been watching this, Harry Scott who played Wally changed his name to Anthony Scott, is that correct ?
And from what I could see on the web he died in 1983 and this show was first shown in 1984, so it must have been one of his last jobs ?

There is something funny about this very episode. Did anyone notice Arnie in his working suit/overall or onesie *lol When Terry is chatting to him we can see that Dennis is written on the suit.. crazy - innit?

Watched this ep last night. Hadn't seen it in years - one of my favs.
Whole collection of great and good actors: Ray Winston, Jimmy Nail, John Altman (briefly as the taxi driver), June Whitfield...
"Gawd, it's like calling a fishmonger Haddock", Arthur said when he saw the undertaker's name. Fabulous acting as always by the wonderful Mr. Cole.

Love the character Arnie and also I like Wally, reminded me a lot on the late great Mike Reid. June Whitfield and George Cole together, must have been a writers dream, both make acting look effortless in whatever they appear in. Jimmy Nail, I thought was great as the Gypsy leader. Best part of this episode is the funeral directors, Death, sorry De-Ath. Quality.

Anybody notice that the growing grass on the car is not visible when Arthur touches the car and talks about the gleam.

I like the start of the episode when Arthur is having a pot of earl grey while reading the paper when he discovers his old pal Mr Walter West has been struck with a fine for clocking motors, Mr Walter West for the prosecution aged 53, yeah well he's turned back the clock on that an all ain't he. Some great scenes in this episode although the De-Ath part was a bit weak, Jimmy Nail was pretty good as the gypo and Wally West fitted the part like a glove.

The traveller character played by Jimmy Nail accent covered a fair few miles.

Yes, the De-Ath gag was pretty weak by Minder standards.
The actor that played Walter is also credited on IMDB with playing Ari in the card shark episode (Aces high and sometimes very low), surely they're not the same person?

They are different people with a similar name. IMDb is often wrong. This is the Antony Scott in the left picture in 'Aces High & Sometimes Very Low' and in the right picture playing a heavy called Kingston in the BBC show called '1990' (from 1977 - filmed just before Aces High). He was also in the Sweeney! film as well as a few other things. Wally West is Harry Scott (formerly of 'The Comedians'):

I watched this episode tonight. Great one with a neat plot involving some shady, deceitful villains and the final punch-up was ace with Terry and "Oz" taking on a gang including The Bill's Reg Hollis and Del Baker. Arthur played a cool part too at the end by making a deal with the dodgy businessman and in this episode, Terry didn't seem as angry with him as he did in the other eps I've seen of series 4.

Below is a Press Photograph (which I obtained on eBay). Written below, the words which can be found on the back of the above Press Photograph. Thames Television Minder Wednesday 8 February 1984 9.00 - 10.00 pm "The Car Lot Baggers" "You don't actually tell lies... just let the truth get the better of you", is how Terry (Dennis Waterman) sums up Arthur (George Cole) - in Minder tonight, by Trevor Preston. Second hand car dealer Wally West (Harry Scott) has been fined eleven hundred pounds for tampering with mileage recorders, by Marylebone Magistrates, but Arthur's friend Wally, has another problem, his car lot has been broken into and all his log books and keys stolen, everyone in the area blames any theft or vandalism on gypsies camped there, but when Arthur hires out Terry to keep a vigilant eye on Wally's car lot, Terry meets up with the gypsies and is sure they are not the culprits.... Arthur has another matter on his mind, Wally says he is into a good little earner and wants Arthur to clinch the deal, he knows a funeral director (Artro Morris) who is retiring, and has a Daimler hearse and two Princess limos to sell, he also knows a likely buyer, Mrs. Murdoch (June Whitfield) who runs her late husband's undertaking business, the three vehicles "are in mint condition, Mrs. Murdoch, and they drive like silk", Arthur assures the potential purchasers... Pictured: Chloe Salaman as Ellen, the wife of one of the local gypsies - in Euston Films' Minder - The Car Lot Baggers.

I recently bought (on DVD) Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years, In which Chloe Salaman, played the role of Sarah Churchill.

A decent episode, though not quite up to The standard of Trevor Preston's Sweeney scripts. This is his only Minder script. Quite a grainy looking episode for some reason. I guess this was filmed in late September 1983. Great line from Arthur about seeing a healthier face on a pirate flag. Chisholm is without Jones again here and seems just a little bit lost. Either Meic Povey was unavailable or they were keeping costs down. First sighting of Arnie, played by Ray Winstone before he became Ray Winstone. The punch up towards the end is a good one by Minder standards.

The punch up towards the end is a good one by Minder standards. It was good to see Mickey get stuck in too. Usually the top men let their heavies do the dirty work but Mickey looked like he still enjoyed the chance of a tear-up. The setting was good as well, I'm sure Snooker Halls saw plenty of this type of thing.

At the end of this one Terry & Nathan confront the vandals working for Fribbins with a good punch up. I do agree about the end of 'High Drains Pilferer' - good setting for the fight and nice to see Mickey getting stuck in!

Excellent episode - enjoyed watching this one a couple of times, close together s few years back & again yesterday. Jimmy Nail was excellent,as was June Whitfield! Colin Jeavons plays another "weasle - like" character again, after "Bigger They Are" in The Sweeney. Another great actor. I always like an episode when there is not only two things going on - but a few, with the "warranty claim!" .....😆👍🏼 A definite 5/5

A short excerpt from Jimmy Nail's 2004 autobiography 'A Northern Soul', which is not particularly complementary of our Dennis:

I don't think there is anything wrong with what Dennis did. I am sure at the time he must have been bogged down in public by fans so the signed photos were a good idea in my opinion. Beats telling them to do one.

I can see both sides here. As Jimmy Nail wrote, it does appear big headed at first but like daz, I appreciate that this probably happened many times a day and as long as the photo was handed over politely with a smile, I think it's ok.

Maybe I'm in a minority but I liked De'Ath and loved his line describing the car as being "Black as the bible and silent as an angel's fart"

" silent as an angel's fart" ....wonderful line, delivered perfectly and the way De'Ath covers his mouth with his hand finishes it off to a tee.
