Nice little storey about Russell Hunter. I got a call to work on a government film, promoting safety for lorry drivers. I was there to fix camera rigs on the front of a lorry, the back of a lorry and any other awkward place the Cameraman and the director could think of. This storey illustrates how some clever people get things wrong, the clever people in this situation were the Production company, the producer, the director and the casting director, they cast Russell as the lorry driver. So day one, we get to a secluded road near Shepperton early one morning and I start to rig the camera on the truck, up comes Russel and the director says to him” right we just want you to drive up and down the road a few times”. Russel says “I can't drive mate”. There was a stunned silence and finally the producer said “but you used to drive the taxi in Callan”, Russel said, “ no I didn't, the taxi was on a low loader, ( quite a normal film practise). I just sat there and tweaked the steering wheel”. Just to finish the storey, we got a breakdown truck in and towed the lorry around to do Russells close-ups, and yours truly drove the truck in run by's and long shots. So don't forget chaps never believe what you see on the screen. Also; a lesson, to check things out thoroughly before committing yourself. We the crew, were in fits we couldn't belive that anybody hadn't actully asked him whether he could drive a car, let alone a lorry, and of course crews love to see production gob-smacked .

I watched this earlier and it was the first time i'd seen it (one of three Dennis episodes I haven't seen before). I had seen some clips from it before however. I really enjoyed it but then I always like Leon Griffiths episodes the best (and I feel it's how Minder is supposed to be as he created it) the other two I've yet to see are also Leon episodes 'Long Ride Back To Scratchwood' and 'Why Pay Tax' (no spoliers pleae).
As is pointed out in the episode guide the cars outside the car lot change from when the Vauxhall Astra passes to when we see the van, but one of the cars the Astra passes looks to be the beige Mini that Arthur sells (you can just make out the number plate and it has those wing mirrors). I also spotted Terrys Capri through the bus window (as mentioned in the episode guide) again you can just make out the number plate. As mentioned in a previous post there is a continuity problem in the bus scene i didn't notice the Mercedes but when Terry is running to catch the bus he passes a blue Cortina and then when he stops he's back near the Cortina.
I also noticed an unspoken part played by Eric Richard (Bob Cryer The Bill) as a policeman. Due to the large cast the end credits include the photograph of the dustcart which I think only appears in Series 1 and 2.
For fans of Russell Hunter check him out in 'The Gaffer' with Bill Maynard
With regard to the title 'In' I'm guessing it's a pun on Trevor Preston's 1978 TV series 'Out'.

'In' and 'Out' must be as you say Albert Wendell. All the times I've watched this I've never spotted Eric Richard though - I will have to reach for the DVDs later on.

He's the policeman who lights Arthurs cigar whilst he is being questioned. After a bit of checking, this gentleman is not Eric Richard, rather Ron Alridge, who has a credit as 'Officer 3'. Add a "d" to his name and you have Aldridge and he is the same person who has his own website and a few interesting videos on YouTube about presentation skills: www.ron-aldridge.co.uk/Incredibly, I think I might have actually seen this gentleman live myself but never realised it until today. While on holiday in Bournemouth I definitely went to watch 'Run For You Wife' with Eric Sykes and Terry Scott in the 80s on the pier. According to his website he was part of the cast!

This is a superb episode and an absolute masterclass in acting from George Cole. Great to see another appearance by Rycott. I very much like the character. Nice cameo by Russell Hunter playing a thinly disguised Lonely (as he did when playing Popeye in The Sweeney). There is a slight waste in having Barry Stanton as the hotel owner. He surely deserved a better role in Minder. I fully agree with the comments about the classic punch up on the bus. Terrific stuff. Great end to the series. I bet viewers didn't know they'd have to wait twenty months before the next new episode.

If ever I get pulled by the Old Bill for something I didn't do (hopefully) I'm going to roll out Arthur's classic line...''You come over, pluck a man from his fireside...'' Class

One of the best episodes of Minder. Of all the great things in this episode my favorite is the scene with Arthur and Ferret. It is a lot of fun to see George Cole and Russell Hunter together.

It would appear that ITV4 have tweaked their Minder repeats by making them much more complete than in previous years. The running times are noticeably longer too , although bad language and Debbie's best bits are still edited out. Concerning In, gone is the line about Lucozades/Jerries and Diane Langton's "Tough titty!" as well as the most dangerous scene from the spectacular punch-up when Terry's face is oushed towards the moving tarmac.

Anyhow, back to the show, it's hilarious how the the German cop is there, pompous and 'germanic' and Arthur is trying to convince him he's an old army hero from the war complete with the medals and the stories, his bunny in this is brilliant George Cole is brilliant in those scenes with the German Cop love how he keeps putting in snide remarks even whispering stuff to Rycott i think about Germans loving documents

I thought I’d posted this last year but obviously not - I spoke to Paul Weston who was the stunt arranger on this episode and a few others and he said that against his advice, Brian Cox insisted on performing the fight scene himself. When they started filming and Dennis threw his punch at Brian he threw himself backwards as the script required but unfortunately for him, he was a bit too enthusiastic and he cracked his head against the side of the bus and knocked himself out.

Haven't seen this one for a while, reading through this thread means I'll have to dig it out of the loft! One line that always stuck in my mind was the kind of mutual respect between Cox's character and Terry after their fight - the Scotsman just gets up and say "ahhhh Terry you're a hard man" to which Terry replies "you're a bit tasty yerself Jock!". Classic.

Ron Alridge played Boycie's brother in law, Bronco, in an episode of Only Fools And Horses! Typical in as much as he did some work for the Lewisham car dealer and never got paid! JB

Another "face" who turns up in this episode is Dominic Allan as the police surgeon. He'd previously played the outwardly avuncular, but bad-as-the-rest, A10 man DCI Chatt in "Law and Order". He seems to have combined an acting career with being a sports reporter for LBC radio. Definitely same name, same boatrace below: www.geofflumley.org.uk/lbc261/LBCpresenters/Pages/4.html

Does anyone the name of the stock music that's played when the police pull up outside Arthur's car lot (sorry, I'm reduced to just asking questions about what music was played in episodes now, haha)?

One thing I’ve just noticed... That white Porsche must surely be Rula Lenska’s car from The Birdman of Wormwood Scrubs. Wasn’t that many white 911’s going about

Classic episode, from start to finish. The fight scene at the end was amazingly well done. Can't imagine anything like it being shown at primetime these days.
I also liked in the police station when Arthur got pulled how polite and friendly the uniformed officers were towards him! In contrast to how Rycott treated him.

I remember seeing a programme on ITV in 1986 or 1987 during the school holidays which featured the bus fight from this episode. It was a one-off drama shown in the morning or afternoon about a family being driven apart by divorce and the wife/mum was watching it on TV as she argued with either her husband or daughter. Do any of you know what this was called?

The final fight was great and where it leads too. The bus slowing down and where it ends up. Too comical. Given there was an almighty scrap going on on his bus which he must have been aware of, surely the driver would have purposely headed for the nearest police station. Amazing dedication to duty if he was still following his route!

Amazing dedication to duty if he was still following his route! My late father held a PSV licence (as do some forum members) and I'm sure he told me that in his training he was advised that if he were to ever encounter violence or violent behaviour on a bus journey, the correct procedure was to head for the nearest Police station. This was in the early '90s though and things may well have changed by now?
