During the fight on the jetty at the end of the episode, Des is lying on the floor whilst Archie Simpson is trying to hit him with the long handled hook/pike thing. Hargreaves (Simpson) was obviously putting his heart into the scene as each time the hook makes contact with the floor, it leaves quite a mark in the surface! It's a good thing that the timing between Layton and Hargreaves was spot on Hargreaves usually plays quite meek and mild characters, so this was a big chance for him to show he can do something different. He can still do both quiet and dangerous, sometimes in the same part. He was in the recent post-war spy drama Traitors as Keeley Hawes shellshocked/homicidal father who really comes into his own in the last episode where he dishes out some serious damage to some blokes's bonce.

One of my favourite episodes of Minder. Love Pete Postlethwaite as Oily Wragg - great actor. The whole cast are at the top of their game and there is so much good stuff crammed into fifty minutes. Some brilliant fight scenes as well (Dave's nose) - as previously mentioned the fight at the Winchester with Arthur hiding behind the curtain is classic Minder. As is the hilarious sight of Arthur falling into the water pushing the boat away "Wave goodbye to Jacko". Nice to see Dave and Des get more screen time. Always love a final scene at the Winchester and this one doesn't disappoint - "Oh look whose here Esther Williams", "Don't flare up" and I really like the final line with Des to Arthur "Go on smile". Top tier episode and a great example of why Minder is my favourite TV show of all time.. "Slaaaaaaggg". 5 out of 5.

As Littlejohn would say in the Daily Mail, I've just come across a case of life imitating Minder. The latest advert for the AA has some bank robbers coming out of the bank to find their car broken down. Just reminded me of the tale of Jack (Oily) Wragg locking the keys in the car and asking if anyone was a member.

I thought David Hargreaves was very good in the role, he is someone I usually associate with playing straight put upon characters rather than a nut job. Absolutely. The first time I saw this episode I was probably around 10 years old and couldn't believe DH could play this type of role as i'd been used to seeing him present childrens programmes, all quiet and smiles. How strange _ I actually agreed totally with this. I like David Hargreaves a lot and associated him mostly with Juliet Bravo and the afore-mentioned childrens programmes I too would have grown up with that I agreed, However, since seeing this episode again a week ago, I thought the nutter role defined him. But as I am watching Juliet Bravo now, I'm back to my original I see him as the straight actor. That its confusing is great really - tells me what a good actor he is/was
