A lot of the edits on ITV4 are more to do with making the episode shorter than they originally were so they can fit an extra ad break in. Do yourself a favour & buy the DVDs.

Probably correct, but doesn't explain why "poncing" is edited out and "ponce" is left in! As I said, ITV4 seem to make their rules up on the hoof.

It does explain this: ITV4 are inconsistent and 'Minder' on ITV4 is not how the show was not intended to be broadcast or more importantly to be seen - I think that is fair to say. The ITV4 version is a poorly edited expurgated imitation of the original with no regard for the content. I have mentioned countless times on this forum that although I am happy the ITV4 broadcasts keep Minder in the public consciousness, it's a crying shame it's not how was intended. ITV4 treat the show as a cash cow and it is nothing more than a poorly expurgated version focused on raising revenue through extended ad breaks. Minder was made as a post 8:30 PM / 9:00 PM 'after the watershed' show and now sadly ITV4 see it as nothing more than a daytime schedule filler. It is akin to a radio station playing a song with chunks missing replaced by ads or YouTube constantly interrupting a video by placing an ad in there. What ITV4 do is for me only 1 step away from using pop-ups on webpage: grab you by offering you a carrot of major interest only for them then to use that as a means to promote ads and make money. I don't believe Minder (or many other shows on ITV4) were created for this purpose. Ad breaks complemented the show, not the other way around. As such discussing what ITV4 may or may not have chopped is neither here or there for me and this wanders off the original version of the show for which this thread 'All Mod Cons' thread is meant. Here is the specific thread for discussing dodgy ITV4 edits: minder.proboards.com/thread/299/minder-broadcasts-on-ITV4-etcThe only correct way of watching what was intended with Minder and any other shows ITV4 use in this way is as swainy says: DVDs (my tip: preferably Australian ones).

Watched last night and a good epsiode which you cannot take your eyes off with three storylines to follow. I think Terry has gone well upmarket with his latest bird, but did we ever see her again? I cannot remember. Toyah would have been at the peak of her powers at this point with acting and doing well in the musical stakes as well. The dodgy bathroom stuff, even I struggle to think Arthur would have bought that load of old rubbish.
Do we think Ace would have let two hooray henrys spank him in his own kitchen like that two ***** did and even worse make a mess of his kitchen? I suspect he wouldn't have needed Terry to pull him out of the Merde.
Simon Cadel was a superb actor who was taking from us too soon, could turn his hand to any type of character, but played the 'ponce' manager well.
The Michael Robbins character was possibly how the older man did around chasing younger woman back then, I suspect he would have splashed a dash of blue stratos as well just to secure success, although she was a right howler.
I can remember a guy, possibly around the same age as the MR character around this time going around with different woman most evenings where I lived with his shirt undone to the waist, which was a brave thing to do up here as not exactly the med. The reason I remember him was he always passed us at the swings we played at on his way to the Double Two with his latest conquest and the older kids would tell us stories of what he was up too, which at the time sounded disgusting.

This was the very first episode I saw of Minder. It certainly wasn't shown in HK. I recall the Space Invaders scene so vividly. Excellent episode. My take on Terry with a cigarette lighter is he was now doorman in a plush establishment, perhaps lighting women's cigarettes for them whilst they exited a taxi? Great roles for all concerned. The kitchen scene was great with lardy Bernie getting a clump after being ridden around the kitchen being whipped with a stick of celery. To answer Daz's question, I would have cut them up and put them in a curry (to paraphrase what I heard a Gurkha private threaten a British Corporal....and was VERY real in the threat) The top totty was stunning. Terrys best in my book!

Watched this on New Years Eve; much better than goin' out. Really enjoyed it. Some great lines, good performances. I've actually quoted Terry's line about the century break at snooker not so long ago; din't realise I was 'talking Minder in real life' at the time, but must have been somewhere in my subconscious...
Michael Robbins character was superb, and played beautifully. Shame he couldn't have reprised the role in a later episode.
Great lines near the end, after Terry's knocked the geezer clean out the building :
"How's things with you, Pierce?" "Oh, pretty quiet" - Deadpanned brilliantly by Tony Osaba (much preferred his piece to Terry's - Helen a little too refined for my tastes)
And for those of a certain age, Bernie the doorman gone soft by too much brandy was also Roland's dad in Grange Hill...small world.

Fight scenes apart which are very realistic, this one doesn’t hit the usual standards for me. The hooray Henry characters are verging on cliche despite there probably being a seed of truth in how they’d behave.

I thought the punch-ups were quite good in this episode, Terry comes up against a couple of hardnuts at the squat and handles them very well. That's a tough old scrap with Terry putting in a couple of crunchers! Sorting out the toffs in the club kitchen was good to see, they had it coming.

Watched this episode today. Great line from Terry after he has finished sorting out the pair of hooray Henrys in the kitchen at the club. " That's what comes of drinking on an empty head". The colour of those bathroom suites that Arthur buys from McQueen reminds me of the purple one that was in our first house we bought 30 years ago. On more general note completely agree with earlier comments regarding advert breaks and editing on ITV4 not just in this episode but in most other episodes as well.

There may be a blooper at the start of the episode where Arthur stops playing Space Invaders when his life is lost, and walks away. The screen says "Press 1 or 2 player button" so there is clearly at least 20p credit in the machine, but Terry still reaches for his 10p to put inside. Then the bloke challenging them to a doubles game says his bit. I suppose it could all be an odd part of the hustle, but it feels like someone didn't realise there were at least two credits in the machine, or Terry wouldn't have reached for his 10p.

When he shows up at the Winchester as a typical, mid-life crisis medallion man, complete with young floozy in tow, the voice just puts the cherry on top imo.

Just watched this and agree very enjoyable. Good ruck at the end, tasty girl for Terry, quality guests and some great one liners.
Arthur to the pub owner “ VaT for me and a lager for Terry. He’s just putting a bidet in his boot”

A really good, if downbeat episode due to most of the participants being pretty unpleasant. And it was hacked to death by ITV4, some of the cuts are really rudimentary.
I think Annette Lynton (now Mrs Nick (Pink Floyd) Mason) is up with Lynda Hayden as Terry's best, and although Helen is too posh for him she isn't as lecturing as Penny. And Simon Cadell is fantastic as ever.
The uncredited chef is John Louis Mansi - best known as Von Smallhausen in 'Allo 'Allo and the stressed traffic control centre operator in 'The Italian Job'.

Helen is a fine looking woman for sure and although she thinks a lot of Terry, deep down she knows there's no long term future for them. Good spot on the Chef lc.

Watched this again last night along with "The Beer Hunter" and "A Nice Little Wine" from series 2.
I had forgotten just how gritty the storylines were in the first two series compared to the later ones with Dennis Waterman. Michael Robbins was a delight to watch - such a fine actor - and perfectly cast as a randy old plumber's merchant. I'm sure some of the guest stars in the entire run of Minder were friends of George Cole and he would have recommended them for certain roles. That's unlikely with Toyah though, but you never know!
I also love the incidental music in this episode. When Terry enters the house for the first time and approaches the flat where the family live the brief passage of incidental music is taken directly from The Sweeney (where it's heard in several episodes).

Found this nice little article from a couple of years ago. The Masons apparently live in a house previously occupied by the Duchess of Cornwall and Andrew Parker Bowles. Annette still looks lovely 40 years on from this episode. www.tatler.com/gallery/middlewick-house-open-garden

A good episode, plenty going on and some great guest stars esp Michael Robbins and Tony Osaba

Nice solid episode with well-interleaved storylines, great character acting and a classic dust-up to finish. Thought Helen was top-drawer in this and it's a pity her part was a one-off. Arthur's interrogation of Jack in the Winchester with his "niece" made me laugh, as he probed into the "other" uncle. I also liked the homage paid to HMV in Elsa's club with the mural of "The Beagle Sound Company". No part for the boys in blue, though.

Arthur hustling at Space Invaders at the start. Agree with others on here about the fights in this. I’d forgotten how good they were. When Terry chins Raffles, The Gentleman Thug in the kitchens, he leaves the floor by about a foot.

Always struck me as being odd that Arthur was playing space invaders he didn’t seem to be the type of bloke to be into modern technology unless he was selling it , and would more likely to moan about the noise the machines made when he was enjoying a drink.
