A Lot Of Bull & A Pat On The Back: a little note about the muck used in this episode. It was a mixture of fullers earth (like clay cat litter) and water mixed into a paste and a little peat added.

Link to episode on minder.org: www.minder.org/episodeguide/S02E04_ALotOfBullAndAPatOnTheBack.htmDVDs and episode guides often incorrectly place this episode as the last in this series due to its transmission last in the London area only. This episode was intended to be the fourth episode in series 2 and was broadcast everywhere outside London as the fourth episode in the series. It is therefore included on minder.org as such.

Hi t64, welcome to the forum - all the tunes that have been identified so far are also here with some links for a listen: www.minder.org/tunes/index.htm#incidentalthis is an on going hunt for those elusive library tunes. This particular tune "Don't Let Go" can also be heard on the radio at Rose Mellors' garden centre in 'Bury My Half At Waltham Green'.

Watched this ep on ITV4. Haven't seen it in years. Very amusing episode. Love Debbie 'tart with a heart' character. The scene where she's laid up in a hospital bed, her only concern was who would feed the cats - great piece of writing.
Although a little predictable, Arthur's reticence to help with the bull was a hoot.
The scene where you see Arthur's car, with dual carriageway and the sign post saying "London /Croydon (A22)" I think was at Godstone, Surrey. I used to have a customer just around the corner from there.

I used to have a customer just around the corner from there. I think your right about the location... it looks like somewhere between Godstone and the Caterham by-pass. Its very nearly on my current manor but despite travelling along the A22 on a regular basis, there has never been anything in the clip to give the exact location away...

It's a tough one that roundabout - my money is on Godstone but it all looks so different today. I added some new locations to this page recently. The countryside scenes are all done in either Westerham or Edenbridge areas. It really needs someone from the countryside around there to locate exactly. Two crew have only told me the same story 'was near Gatwick I think'.
Both myself and my pal nry have spent weeks going over the whole area with Google Maps and street view but have found it impossible to come up with anything concrete which we're confident enough to put on the main site. The bit where the car gets stuck could be, but not at all sure 'Hole Lane' but at present I don't feel confident enough that it's the same place. Only asking a local will confirm it.
A bit of local knowledge is always worth the earth in location spotting so if you're ever in the vicinity, always good to take a printed screengrab with you. Sadly no paperwork for this one either other than a script.

I'm pretty sure it is the roundabout where the A22 crosses the A25. This leads to the M25, pass Godstone vineyards and up to Whyteleafe.

Over the next few weeks I'll try and take some photos of that area and post them. You can make up your own minds. (It's only about 30 mins ride away.)

Some great comedy in this one. Arthur getting covered in mud when trying to push the car and also falling into the cow pat. Interesting little sub plot as well with Terry helping Debbie with a violent stalker. Terry delivers an eye watering punch to the queensbury's of the stalker when he catches up with him in the strip club.

Queensbury rules (a boxing term) to rhyme with balls That's another post for the A-Z of Minder rhyming slang.

Yes, it is interesting how Queensburys is slang for testicles.
But a lot of cockney rhyming slang has been horribly distorted over the years and there are now quite a few derivatives based on derivatives.
I was brought up in the east end of London in the 1960's / 1970's and have a vague memory that queensburys actually comes from queensbury rules which, in turn, was slang for crown jewels. The rhyme is obvious and, of course, another name for a man's testicles are crown jewels!
Not saying that was the true path from testicles to queensburys but it could be!

Thank you for clarifying that this is not the last episode of the season. My Region 1 DVD has it as the last. I will watch it next.

Thank you for clarifying that this is not the last episode of the season. My Region 1 DVD has it as the last. I will watch it next. As mentioned above, only the last episode on original transmission in the London region as there was a 'telethon' on when it was supposed to go out first. The rest of the UK (outside London) broadcast it as episode 4 but this London only region 'mistake' has sadly made it on to every DVD release ever since. Hopeless, as it is one of the few Minder eps that makes no sense at all putting it last hence minder.org has it in its original position as episode 4. I am hoping that any future bluray release will finally address this order issue. It was poorly researched by the original DVD release and the rest have erroneously copied the incorrect order (including the Australian and US releases).

Well, if Andrew Pixley is going to be involved in the Network release then we can be confident that the original order will be restored.

I like the fish out of water aspects with our boys out of their usual surroundings. Arthur's mumbo jumbo about country life and country gentlemen is amusing.

An all time classic. No matter how many times I hear Terry telling Arthur he'd "better not be giving me any bull****" I can't help laughing. Two good story strands with the bull and Debbie. Arthur's panic when he hears the helicopter, etc on the way to getting the bull back is another highlight. The episode reintroduces Debbie to Arthur, so we do need a DVD release that corrects the order of series 2.

This one includes one of my favourite Minder jokes that always makes me laugh.
When Terry and Arthur are driving to the countryside for the second time, a policeman drives by the car and Arthur is paranoid about the police being around. Arthur says the police are all around "Lurking in the hedgerows, hiding in the hay", and Terry says "Doo-dah, Doo-dah" - because Arthur's phrase sounded like the Camptown Races Song!
