Was 'Marios' voice dubbed in this episode?
I watched the episode the other evening and I'm pretty sure it was.

The Dessert Song.
Whilst on the road selling tins of pickled walnuts, Arthur and Terry come across a man being beaten up. After Terry chases off the attackers, they agree to take him back to his family's Cypriot restaurant, and there they are swiftly thanked and shooed out of the door by the owner of the restaurant, Mrs Kostas. Later that evening Arthur is met by Mrs Kostas who asks for his help in the matter of securing her premises, which is caught up in the middle of an ongoing family disagreement, with her brother-in-law Omar. So Terry is sent over the next day to watch the place.. Soon enough Omar's motley crew barge their way in, with Terry seeing them off, but it is unlikely to be the last time they hear of 'Omar's' gang.. Meanwhile, Arthur is seeing pound signs everywhere, and is wondering how best to capitalise on the situation... Penultimate episode of the first series, which earns extra brownie points for fight action, and for starring the lovely Diane Keen!! Directed by Roy Ward Baker, once again the show is in solid hands, plus the episode being made better than average for the points mentioned above. Michael Angelis (Chrissie - Boys from the Blackstuff) and Godfrey James providing just a couple of TV regulars into the supporting roles mix... With of course the aforementioned Keen - The Sex Thief ('74) - being my own personal favourite in the cast. A lot of this one is shot interior, so not got quite the same nostalgic vibe... But like I said there's a few fights in this one and the story is lively. I really liked the bit where Arthur traps the guy in the phone booth.. And also his exasperations toward pickled walnut selling (or lack of!).

I like this episode, probably helped by the appearance of Diane Keen, who incidentally still looks incredible for her age. I like the interplay between Arthur and Terry in this one, story ticks along nicely at a decent pace and takes us in to the world of Londons Greek/Cypriot community, another quality of Minder for me is the way it delves into different communities and not just stick to their own manor, for me one of the reasons for the shows success.
Pickled Walnuts, I don't think even a tight Aberdonian like me would part with my hard earned for a bargain like that.

Pickled Walnuts?! Ugh!! Do human beings actually eat them? Nice to see Terry and Arthur working much more as partners than in previous episodes. "Cheers to you Arthur bloody Daley!!"

I saw this episode recently on ITV 4. At about 30 mins in Terry helps out in the restaurant by taking two plates of very hot food to two diners at a table. The customer at the table facing the camera looks a bit like Tony 'Bill the driver' Allen from The Sweeney who did, of course, appear in episode 2 of this series albeit in an uncredited role. jno has both episodes being filmed in August 1979, possibly, so could this be right?

Not 100% certain on the filming dates of 'The Dessert Song' - only educated guess to date - the information is out there on this one, but as yet has not been passed in my general direction unfortunately.

Very good episode. Again, Arthur portrayed as being more attracted to ladies than he was later on. Then again, Diane Keen looked very lovely in this episode.

Again, Arthur portrayed as being more attracted to ladies than he was later on. It seems all or nothing from Arthur where women are concerned. He either considers them as an inconvenience and thinks they should be kept at arms length OR he's all over them like a rash!

Another point to add to the bloopers section - Keep your eyes peeled on the front of Mario s old Transit It keeps switching from the original grille style to the revised front end from 71 -although the registration plate remains the same ! Diane Keen also played a Greek in the early Professionals episode - Killer with a Long Arm and ends up getting knocked down by a black cab

It is surprising that these continuity errors with vehicles happened.
I can only assume that the original vehicle had a fault.
And/or perhaps the vehicle hire company were contracted to send 'a Capri' or 'a Transit van'. And they sent different ones each time.

Diane Keen does look a little Greek. She was/is an attractive woman. I gave it a 4/5 - lacking a little to make it a 5/5...... On the car front - her VW Scirocco GLS was a very nice motor,I always promised myself one years ago, there were a couple of reasons - one being very high insurance for a 1600cc car & two - corrosion,as this example proved,a 1978 car last taxed in 1986! They were built in the Karmann factory, never known for rust resistance for any cars produced there,I read this some years ago & I was tipped off about this, whilst taking a leak in a nightclub toilets years ago by a scrapyard owner, who overheard me talking about them. He said the rear chassis just rotted to oblivion - leaving nothing for the rear suspension to hang on to! Also - being built there, they were very expensive - that 1600 GLS model was a top of the range model (the equivalent of a Ghia Ford) but cost almost as much as a 3000 Ghia Capri & more than 3000S.

I like the bit where Arthur says to Christina :"do you want any picked walnuts...you can bung them in a mousakka...you can bung anything in a mousakka...no offence!"

Watched this one for the second and find it good but not great. As Arch mentioned there is plenty of action and Diane Keen. There is no shortage of great lines of dialogue throughout the episode. It is odd in these early episodes to see Arthur chasing skirts but it does have good taste in this one!

Arthur is more like 'one of the lads' and still sees himself as a bit of a player in the earlier episodes i think, typical spiv

Watched again tonight, yet another excellent episode from the opening series. Of course seeing the lucious Diane Keen in it always helps. Arthur did like the ladies in the first series, I wonder why they stopped him from chasing the ladies in later series.

Arthur's quest in 'Monday Night Fever' is discussed on the commentary on the Australian DVD series 1 set - out of character and something that was simply discontinued. That said, 'Dreamhouse', 'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Retiring' and 'Another Case of Van Blank' do see Arthur doing what might interpreted "as a bit of flirting".

That said, 'Dreamhouse', 'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Retiring' and 'Another Case of Van Blank' do see Arthur doing what might interpreted "as a bit of flirting". I was happy to see this aspect of Arthur's character elminated after the first year and I think it made him more interesting. He had enough going on with his car lot and dodgy deals with out adding womanizing. As noted he isn't above flirting or pouring on the flattery particularly if it is useful for him to do so. It also makes his occasional fear of 'Er Indoors' more humorous by implying that infidelity is a line he dare not get caught crossing as his wife would likely break him into little pieces. Besides, the show already had Terry who had little problem pulling birds.

Yes, I do think it wouldn't have been good having Arthur as a ladies man chasing all the ladies, but you cannot blame the man chasing Diane Keen, he is only human.

Yeah a good episode this one, Mrs Costos is verrry nice, good to see Steeeeven from OFAH getting his comeuppance! Diane Keen was very much a honey, saw her in 'Rings On Their Fingers' a sitcom shown on Irish TV around that time, co starring with Martin Jarvis. Also at that time she was in another show 'Shillingbury Tales' Which I also used to watch. So she was very busy at that time.
