Well it's that time of year again folks. Christmas, love it or loathe it. Which traditionally might have been all about the worship of the Roman God Saturn, with a bit of peace on earth and good will to all mankind on the side........ But sadly, not any more though. Coz nowadays it's all about the prezzies and gross consumption. Ker-Ching Ker-Ching! Stanton Hall is currently filled with a veritable treasure trove of gifts for the Cornish orphans. The larder and west cellar are starting to be re-stocked with yuletide extravagances, ready for those that visit during the festive period. Good times are about to roll... However this death match isn't about my generosity, it's more about yours. As this weeks Death Match asks: Are you a giver or a taker? After all, let's be honest now, in your household: Who buys the gifts? Who wraps them up? Who writes the cards? Who makes Christmas dinner? Who chooses what goes on the tele? Who is accepting of those annoying in-laws we all have, and who is not? Do you prefer to receive presents rather than give them? Be honest.. Think before you answer. As suggested by: Magic 8 Ball.

I'll be honest I think I'm a taker. Always have been, always will be. A generous taker, I like to think, but a taker for sure. Balls to seeing the looks of joy on the faces of the Cornish orphans as they open their gifts from Stanton Hall. I just want to get my glass of free sherry, a quick chorus of 'For he's a jolly good fellow' from Sister Mary and the kids, and to keep Satan off my back for another year. However if you are unable to decide here's a quick quiz: Giver vs Taker Quiz Good luck

More inexplicable psychobabble. As you all know I have a part time headshrinking shop. Below is a table we use at the clinic to usually decide whether or not you are likely to suffer from Osteo-paralysis or Skin Thatching before the age of 60.. However it also works perfectly well for deciding how selfish you are. Giver or Taker?

Without blowing me own trumpet - I'd like to think I am giver, who takes when he needs. minder.org is a hobby of mine, labour of love, a lot of time and effort has gone into it over the years, not just from me but from others too, which of course satisfies my curiosity/OCD but hopefully allows others to take something they won't have to invest that time into, to find out themselves. Do I feel good about that? Yes. Of course, I have 'taken' stuff in order to produce this too. Many of my fellow film and TV brethren on this forum are also happy givers (including Arch Stanton, despite his confession as taker above), which is what makes this forum a good place to be, and I don't mind saying this, especially as it's Christmas! Rock on and thanks everyone for making this a great place to hang out with my cyberpals.

I don't think I should partake in the one as don't buy into Xmas much, but on the whole I'd rather give than get, but please bear in mine I don't often give. I was discussing with my Wife the other day that I haven't wrote a Xmas card since I was at primary school, which would have been Xmas 1984, you'll be glad to know that I have bought the occassional present during that time though for others.
I have to say that when I read the title of this death match I feared the worst.

His next gig is backing vocals in my band, he just doesn't know it yet. You would never be able to afford the private jet to get him into Europe and as for the fees...By his own admission he is a taker and not a giver, so no chance, even in the season of goodwill, he will waive the right to them. You don't get as rich and successful* as Mr Stanton by giving away his talents for free, although he does give us great advice for free in his Dr Stanton thread, which is what is termed by the super rich and successful as a Filthanthopic cause. * I forgot to add modest.

Apart from Mrs ace5150 It's not completely black and white you know. Being a taker doesn't necessarily mean you are a 'ponce and a freeloader' Did you take the test Ace, what was your score?

Unless certain voters are living in denial I expect the results of this to be an even split.

Knew it. 2/3 Giver, 1/3 Taker eh.. I scored 57% taker. Pretty much it said I was damn near perfect in my reasoning between giving and taking. Like it was ever in doubt.. See, I knew all those failed relationships I've had were down to the women and not me! The test is practically the same test that jno gives you before you get the moderating tin star and hat. Except his was called the Voight-Kampff something or other and had more of a deserty, tortoise-on-it's-back theme to it.

This could actually be the thread I contribute most to on here ever ! Lol I feel like I want to comment on every post made. Isn't that weird ? I must be a giver. Well yes I am. Buy the presents, cook the dinner etc. It's the Christmas thing. I'm surrounded by it in my second job on the weekends, suggesting and selling Christmas gifts, mainly to men who want to buy a girlfriend, wife, or Missus something nice but they have no idea what to get. There's no fault in not knowing what to buy. The thought and intent is there. With women shoppers my constant advice last weekend when they have a range of choices is to stop overthinking it. Some women actually looked relieved when I told them this. It may sound silly, but I'm not being flippant, I take my job seriously, though it's not rocket science. I know how frantic Christmas can be for some and it shouldn't be.

Earning his stripes in the moderator world. Oh I've already got stripes. I'm like a tiger, I've got that many. I agreed to do Death Match as a bit of fun. Shake stuff up a bit. Take one for the team... But hey, that's us takers for you.

Can I vote for both? Generally I'm a giver but if it's in the right spirit *hic!* (pun intended), then I'll happily take. By that, if someone says let's buy him a nice prezzie, as opposed to "if we're buying her a gift then we'll have to include him"

If you cannot decide, take the Give/Take psychometric test (see above) for a true reflection of your soul. Ace and I (at least) have done it and been big enough to share our results on here. That is the only help I can give you. Your time starts, NOW!

Just posting a few discs once a week to your online pals, or being the first up to the bar to buy the first round of drinks doesn't instantly qualify you for 'giver' status you know Felix. It's much more in depth than that.
It's now 9-2 in favour of 'Givers'.?! For there to be a giver there has to be a taker, right?
However the results so far do NOT reflect this. The results of this DM so far lead me to believe any one or a mixture of these points below should be considered:
A) The forum attracts a particular type of personality (eg mostly givers). B) Answering the DM attracts a particular type of personality (eg mostly givers). C) People do not understand the question, and are answering it hastily without any true, in-depth, personal reflection or completing the test etc. D) People answering it are living in denial of their true nature and are claiming to be givers when they are not. E) Fewer takers are needed in society. They are a rarer breed. The ratio between Givers vs Takers not so much like 1:1, but rather 4:1.
Your thoughts?

I did do the test and scored 61, giver. I'm sure better questions could have been asked though. I might be a miserable git who doesn't part with his cash, but I'm not a taker, but then again I wouldn't really say I'm a giver either, but do honstly feel I am happy giving a person something rather than taking from them.
