Didn't much care for the automatics on first drive, they seemed to wallow at low speed and with the car being slow to respond to the accelerator. The hybrid is a vile beast that's even more tardy and has a bizarre "parking brake" where the clutch would be in a normal car that was so reluctant to release,I had to resort to kicking it. Anyway, having tried an automatic it's manual all the way for me I think. Your first point about being slow to respond and wallowing at low speed is what I was talking about in one of my previous posts about autos being better suited to a larger engine ltd, when you put your foot down you need a response. The parking break in the clutch pedal position is something Mercedes have done for years and I really don't see the point. I have driven them in the past and with the early ones, I couldn't see how you could release the handbrake gradually when making a hill start. Those early ones fitted to the Mercs were either on or off - no middle ground.

I have had a couple of cars with electric handbrakes- but other than “Hill hold” on the latter one, seen no advantage, my auto has a brief hold anyway, so when you take the foot off the brake,it holds comfortably until you pull away, although I put it in P if in a long standstill.

when you take the foot off the brake,it holds comfortably until you pull away The van I drive for work has this and I find it a Godsend. Whenever you come to a complete standstill and then keep your foot on the brake, they wont release for 1.5 seconds after you've let go of the pedal.
