We all like a glass of plonk, but which one?
Red? White? Dessert Wine? Which is your favourite?
Pick three!
'Another Case of Van Blank' shall be ordered for the winner ... in the meantime...
Prost! Salut! Iechyd da! Cheers! Egészségedre! Slàinte! Saluti! Yeghes da!

I'm certainly not into white. I prefer red but I'm not great at distinguishing between each grape. Shiraz has stuck out as one that I've always liked. I don't mind a bit of Rose.

I opted for Cabernet Sauvignon - Excellent if you can find a fine new world one, especially if it's Chilean.
Other - Tempranillo/Garnacha based Rioja. I like Rioja it can be superb.
Sauvignon Blanc - I like nice effervescent whites, fruity and zesty. Can't be doing with all this dry stuff. Of the whites I've tried this year these seem to be my favourites.
I don't drink rubbish like Rose wine!

I'm actually a bit of a wine buff, hard to believe as I'm tee total, but the options you have given are pretty naff. It all depends on the grape. As Arch says, Rose is the cr@p left over from several pressings of a red grape. That said, I've closed a few deals on the naff named 'blush' Zinfendal from California. New World wines, such called as the established wines of Europe had the market covered, were a revelation. South African wines were excellent, but because of apartheid, no one dared import their wine on a large scale. When I first became interested, Yugoslavia had some epic Riesling, I don't think I've seen one in years, Hungary had Bulls Blood, every bit as good as a half decent claret. You've missed the obvious Chablis, Hock (liebfraumilch),decent Riesling like Piesporter, Sparkling wine from Champagne, Burgandy and claret, the list goes on. If you want a list that is diverse, let me compile one for you, I'll even include Sauternes (sweet dessert wine) You'd be surprised how different a wine can taste in the wrong glass!

Oh, that pi$$ you get from ASDA, 3 for £10? Fit for putting on your chips! Perfumed vinegar.
Despite its climate, California produces vile wine. It's marginally up on English wine. A joke.

Here we go, we've got a wine buff on board. Strap yourselves in boys I am stating right now that I'm no wine connoisseur. I know what I like but take my knowledge from merry adventure rather than learned study.

Working in my trade, I got to sample MANY types of wine. My experience is better than most supposed wine bores, apart from Arch who necks it without appreciating it. I've had Petrus (top end) to naff Beaujolais nouveau (first pressing of the gamay grape) that restaurants would race to get the first bottles on their menu

apart from Arch who necks it without appreciating it. I know, it's bad isn't it. It's the only way I know though. I can't help myself.. I find it best enjoyed when quaffed with gusto. One day I'll grow up I'm sure

So they all 'Robola'-d and one fell down, and there was one in the bed and he just said 'hungover hungover' That said, apparently (so I've heard) if a wine is good one you don't get a headache the next day after drinking too much of it. Certainly in my own experience that is sort of true - which is weird because I believe it is primarily from dehydration. I ain't no doctor though and certainly wouldn't classify myself as a 'wine snob' either. Just on experience alone I've often felt 'a headache feels like it's coming soon' after having excessive amounts of more expensive red wine. At the end of day though it's all relative surely? What's an expensive wine for Average Joe is cheap rubbish for someone else and the amount of BS around wine tasting is phenomenal. At the end of the day, if you get a bottle you like, drink it and enjoy it.

Type questions.. Is it sulphites? Histamines? Dehydration? Or simply the levels of anti-freeze? Truth is no one knows. You'd be as wise making sure you offer The God of the Wine Faeries a suitable sacrifice before you indulge, if you ask me.... Well that's what I do and I never get hangovers.

Cote du Rhone Bordeaux and and Italian red, but I have no idea what it is called, it started with a V. No idea where the fit in with the choices given,. Edit: Thanks to Ace, the Italian wine is called Valpolicella, just in case you wanted to nip down to the off license to get a few bottles to knock back with your fish & chips!

Plus Buckfast is horrible stuff. It was a tounge and cheek post, Arch. In certain parts of Scotland, Buckfast is the drink of choice and some people do think it is wine.

Now we're talking! A Cabarnet Sauvignon just edges it for me,more consistent, generally. Used to love a Rioja - but they can be a bit heavy. I'm also partial to a Malbec ,I spend a lot of time deliberating in the wine aisle.......

What exactly is the drink Buckfast? It's sweet fortified wine pumped full of caffeine. It's probably got more caffeine in it per 50ml than Red Bull! It's popular in Scotland and is renowned for getting people very drunk at a cheap price, not on account of it's alcohol content per se but more so I suspect because it has a high caffeine content. The bottles are particularly useful for glassing people..
