Suggested by: meNow we've all known a few Muppets in our time... ..but regarding The Muppet Show, Muppets Tonight and the various Muppets films/movies out there, which of them is the coolest? Pick your TWO COOLEST this week!

Difficult decision to be made, but Animal made it along with Waldorf and Statler, who IMO were the best characters from the Muppets.

I liked them when they first hit the screens, but was already aware of them with Sesame Street which was played on HK TV, as no Play School, so if I could vote for The Count (Vampire) I would. Trouble is, its been done to death and should have had the grace to call it a day when genius Jim Henson died. So, unfortunately, I had to give them a thumbs down, as despite 40 years in the game, its still pretty much the same. Fozzie Bear was OK.

I've got two favourites during my active muppet time, which is about 30 years gone since...
1. Beaker - mimimimmiimmiii 2. Schlemihl ( German name ) - i think he was called Lefty the Salesman....Oi, you wanna buy an O? Why they gave him a jiddish name in Germany I don't know.
But these were the two I found the funniest....

Animal for me: I first became aware of Animal in the mid 70s by his familiar cry and drumming style. Cloned from the TV-throwing 60s rockers, and I've heard he was a protege of Moon the loon. However, Animal has his own distict persona, changing hands (ahem) many times, he kept ahead of the field of skinners. Where he grew up? no-one's too sure, as the label has never been identified. Who did he influence? why did he reject the music industry? Nobody has a defining answer. Above all else... IT'S A PUPPET!!

I opted for none. Now I don't hate the muppets, but I don't really like them much either, they all just seem very American and noisy to me. I suppose the two old guys who moan a lot were okay but by and large, the rest of em I didn't/don't find particularly funny..
However with that said, the other year whilst off over Christmas I was channel surfing and caught part of one of the muppet films and I actually quite enjoyed that. It had me laughing out loud the odd time.

Ok I need clarification on something. To have to ask a question about muppets might be slightly LOL BUT aren't Big Bird, Elmo and Bert & Ernie muppets too ?

I think they were designed by Jim Henson's workshop but they weren't 'The Muppets' per se.. Big Bird et al were a bit like The Fraggle's or Yoda or the creatures in The Dark Crystal or Labyrinth etc

From Muppet Wikia:
Big Bird also appeared in cameo roles in the films The Muppet Movie and The Muppets Take Manhattan and the television special A Muppet Family Christmas, and as a guest on The Muppet Show episode 318, plus a variety of outside TV appearances.

Cheers for the responses. Shame about that, as I like Bert and Ernie. When my son was little and Sesame Street amused him Bert and Ernie were like a little comedy sketch amongst the endless counting and letters. Could never get used to them saying Zeeee for Z on that show though.

Forgot about Bert & Ernie, reminded me when I shared a flat with a mate many years ago, he was Bert, the moody miserable one. They get my vote over the Count.

Sesame Street - Could never get used to them saying Zeeee for Z on that show though. I was discouraged from watching that program as a child for that very reason! Some of my older siblings said it was too Americanised and that it annoyed them, so they would turn it off! They still watched Charlie's Angels and The Love Boat though! Hypocrites! As a result I was aged 26 before I learnt how to count to 12 and tell the time!!

Arch, don't blame your legendary alcohol intake on trashy American TV.......the REAL reason you couldn't count to 12 or do your shoelaces up!

When I did have Sesame Street on for the kid I used to think what a wonderful job it would be to simply go out and photograph 12 of something or 8 of something. They were sometimes quite creative. I suppose they didn't buy you a Mickey Mouse watch to help you learn how to tell the time ?

Yes Bert and Ernie are There is a moody miserable one at my main work place. Have you ever noticed that moody miserable ones don't actually do a lot of work because they are so busy walking around moaning about the Christmas party that they are expected to go to, and moaning about the secret Santa at work (which is optional anyway !). You can get used to them strangely enough over time. Sorry for taking the thread off topic jno, it is hard not to do sometimes.

I suppose they didn't buy you a Mickey Mouse watch to help you learn how to tell the time ? No, likewise Disney was discouraged because they said Walt was a nazi, who'd had himself cryogenically frozen so that he could return from the dead on the day of Armageddon. Mickey Mouse was just some fascist propaganda mascot. Again I was 26 when I discovered this was an untruth... And that the likelihood of him escaping from his burial chamber under the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is actually pretty unlikely..

I don't drink that much.... just enough to fill in the pot holes on the motorway of my soul!! My inability to tie my own shoelaces falls down to the fact that I'm extremely rich and have never needed to learn.

I voted for Animal,I can't imagine seeing a character like him on todays kids tv, aggressive and obviously out of his head on drink and drugs.
My other vote was 'Other' and goes to The Count - he was coolness personified with forked lightening filling the sky behind the upturned collar of his ghoulish cape. He was like a cross between Vincent Price and Emperor Ming - "HAH-HAH-HAH!"
