Tricky one. Was never a fan of either combo. Both were acts of their day. That said, I am a huge fan of Barker: Superb writer, actor and raconteur. As for little'un, he's a stalwart of British TV but not keen on gnomes.

Morecambe and Wise for me, if only for Eric's "He's not going to sell many ice creams going at that speed" as an ambulance went past had me in stitches the first time I heard it.
That said I shall always be grateful to the Two Ronnies for jump starting me into puberty with their infamous mini-serial The Worm That Turned.

Without a seconds thought..., The Two Ronnies. They were ten times funnier than Morecambe and Wise.

Have to admit to loving both acts, but would have to say Morecambe & Wise as I idolise Eric Morecambe. Along with Tommy Cooper I just have to see them to laugh.

Without a second's thought, it's The Two Ronnies for me.
As for Tommy Cooper, am I the only person in the world never to have laughed at him? As kid or as adult, ok it's clever he can c0ck up magic but I really don't think he is funny at all. Many many happy memories watching The Two Ronnies though - even Ronnie Corbett's sit down story I liked too!

Its Big Ron and Little Ron for me. Morecombe & Wise were only funny with their Christmas Specials (sadly dated now) whereas you can still watch The Two Ronnies, and whilst the fashion is of its time, the gags are still very good. Actually, without sounding too un-PC, I thought Benny Hill was better than Morecombe & Wise.
Although I went off Little Ronnie as he 'sacked' Clash guitarist Mick Jones as a 12 year old 'dog walker'. Mick (and friend Robin Banks) used to collect Ronnies dog and just hang around the local park till it was time to return the dog,(which was still wanting its walk) and collect their five shillings. That's gospel truth as well.

Morecambe and wise for me. If you get chance watch their interview on Parkinson. Eric Morecambe runs the show.

Morecambe and Wise for me, if only for Eric's "He's not going to sell many ice creams going at that speed" as an ambulance went past had me in stitches the first time I heard it. Tony Hancock did that joke a long time before Eric & Ernie though. In the radio episode 'The Jewel Robbery' where Sid cons him into allowing him to drive his new (old) Rolls Royce after he's done a smash and grab, they have this conversation: Hancock says to him, "There's a car behind us" Sid replies,"So what?" Hancock: "It's ringing a bell" Sid: "He's probably selling crumpets" Hancock: "I shouldn't think he'll sell many doing 90 miles an hour" That said, it's Morecambe and Wise for me but I don't mind The Two Ronnies at all. Eric only has to look at the camera to start me off laughing.

It's not that I can't stand him, just I don't get WHY what he does is funny and just think "Where's the gag here?" The laughter I hear on screen is also 'what did I miss?' so please tell Mrs daz imho she's right. You could of course try and convince me otherwise, find a few vids online of TC you really think I'll laugh at, post them on a new Tommy Cooper thread and let's see if it works. Now this is a challenge!

You could of course try and convince me otherwise, find a few vids online of TC you really think I'll laugh at, post them on a new Tommy Cooper thread and let's see if it works. Now this is a challenge! Have a watch of the 1967 short (55m) comedy film The Plank. It's about two workmen (Eric Sykes&Tommy Cooper) delivering planks of wood. It's pretty dated nowadays and took me a couple of viewings to really get it's charm, but I'm not a fan of Cooper particularly either, and I've grown to really enjoy this..! It was recommended to me years ago by an aged joiner who I was helping to fit some doors, he told me it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen, and I eagerly went out and bought it! Only to be rather disappointed.. But like I said if you don't go in with huge expectations, you'll realise it's very well done. IIRC Sykes wrote it and they just made it with their showbiz friends over a weekend on next to no budget. It resides in the Cornish Film Archive if you can't get it.

Regarding Tommy Cooper, ask yourself this, if someone came on stage half-drunk and did dire basic magic tricks telling the kind of gags from a Christmas cracker at the X-Factor judges, he'd be booed off stage and told in no uncertain terms how poor he was.
That said, his act was 'of its time'. And I saw him die on stage. I really did.

They are both great. Morecambe and Wise had the classic seventies BBC show and the Riveria Touch, but The Two Ronnies had a more consistent product. The Ronnies sketches were very inventive.
it's nearly Christmas when they are on again!

The Two Ronnies for me. I found them funny as a double act and individually. M & W were good because of Eric imo, he was a natural comedian but Ernie let the side down for me.

The Two Ronnies were far funnier although Eric Morecambe could be quite funny, the Two Ronnies had better writers and better vehicles for their humour. And I am afraid I am someone else who could never see anything funny in Tommy Copper.

Ernie let the side down for me. I dunno about that, I love his speech in Hearts and Minds about coppers always being on the earhole for a free drink or a benefit gig.

Toughest one so far!!
Eric Morecombe was a comic genius but the Ronnie pairing had were the better double act and had the better show.
But I'm plumping for Eric and Ernie simply because I still chuckle remembering Eric walking around back stage at the end of the show with the long coat, his plastic bags and the perplexed look.
Oh - and the Mr Preview quip!!!

I've always preferred the Two Ronnies. I think Morecambe and Wise were a bit more hit and miss and later series relied too much on guest stars. Their ITV series were poor.
I also never found Tommy Cooper funny.

I like both double acts. I think the Ronnies were a little more inventive. M&W did rehash a fair bit of their material in the days before people had video recorders.
I add my voice to those who weren't fans of Tommy Cooper. Not the nicest of people by all accounts either.

I am a big fan, of both the Two Ronnies and Morecambe & Wise, but the Two Ronnies, edge it for me, I really used to enjoy the Two Ronnies serials, my favourite two, being The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town and The Worm That Turned.

I'd say Morecambe & Wise are a lot funnier. But I'd also say The Two Ronnies shows were consistently better and I'd rather sit through their boxset than M&W's. So I'm sitting on the fence.

Eric and Ernie, every time...... but not by a lot. All legends of their time, and I agree, TC and Eric and Ernie don’t translate as well today as the Ron’s do, theirs is more timeless comedy
