So while the rest of the world has probably gone on a diet for summer holidays (here in Europe at least), this week's question is do you prefer one chain over the other or do you sit on the fence while others shovel calories merrily at one of these two fast food chains?
The time has come to decide. What is your favourite - McDonalds, Burger King or neither?

Sit on the fence as both serve cheap rubbish.

Love a Big Mac meal when I have been out on the ale. Don't mind Burger King, but just prefer a Big-Mac and can't really say why. The Golden Arches for me!!

I used to prefer Wimpy over these two anyday but unfortunately, there hasn't been a Wimpy in these parts for quite a few years.

More on Wimpy - it looks like there's 88 Wimpys in the UK. I don't think there are any Cornwall but there are 2 in Devon (one in Newton Abbot and one in Barnstaple). Burger King is called Hungry Jack's in Australia. If I'm going to have fast food then it'll be from a fish n chip shop. McD's and HJ's both have skinny chips or fries. I like a fatter chip. When my son was little I'd go to McD's just to get the 'happy meal' toy for him. LOL Ah the things you do...

Wimpy is pants... The last time I went there, which was at a service station, the venue was filthy, the staff were a disgrace, and the food was rubbish. Poor.
Now I don't eat at fast food venues very often (a few times a year max) because I like cooking. But with that said I'm certainly no food nazi and quite enjoy both a Maccy Ds or a Burger King on occasion. I think that the food is generally tastier at BK, even though it's too costly for what it is. Whereas McDonalds have that nice burger relish on the Big Macs, and a more diverse menu (just for my own culinary amusement, I once used ingredients from their menu to create a curry and starters for 3 people!!)
Hmmm?! I think I'll vote Burger King because you can opt to wear a paper crown in there if you want too King for a day. Wizard!

Well put Arch. There is a lot of fence sitting this week ... I'm sad to hear Wimpy became a dump, I have fond memories of birthday munching there when I was 12 or so.

Voted McDonalds! When I started working in Belfast in the early 90s I was a regular in Burger King but haven't been in there in years! The quality of food went downhill and as someone else said it got overpriced. I would go to McDonalds from time to time but like all those places (KFC included) I look forward to going but when I've finished eating I'm thinking "why did i bother?" Chip shops are much better (if there's one nearby) but you can't beat buying burgers from the local butcher and doing your own....

I've been vegetarian for many years, but do recall Wendy Burger when I was in the USA in the 80's. Tasted like a REAL burger compared to a Maccy D.

Rather a plush looking McDonalds, who were forced to adopt traditional signage on the main shopping street in Salzburg. Picture taken by me on a recent visit to the street, not the restaurant.

Just thought I would resurrect this. In Austria the trend is moving to towards two separate counters at McDonalds these days - one for ordering, one for collection. When I was at Euro 2016, I went to McDonalds in Toulose and the machine you ordered the food on (all in English, Merci) even had an option to "serve to table". Here are some pics: (a) the machine (Barzahlung möglich = cash payments possible) that gives you a ticket, like at the supermarket meat counter (b) collection - you can of course go old school and order at the (Bestellen) counter. Everyone collects from the left (Abholung) counter with their number. In the meantime, park your posterior on the waiting bench as can be seen here: Or just stand about waiting as order 011 is a big one:

When I was in oz, I got the impression that hungry jacks was the drive in version and the high street town branches were called burger king still? then again a lot could have changed in the 13 years since I was last in gods own country!
In the 1980's Wimpy was always inferior to Mcdonalds, and now it seems that burger king does better burgers then maccy D's or maccas for our aussie friends on here. I used to think burger king chips were not as good as mcdonalds, but they have greatly improved lately, I like the do it yourself drinks machine in burgerking as i they do drinks you don't normally see like sugar free grape fanta and so on, as the only sugar free oprion mcdoanlds offer us diabetics is diet coke!

They have one of those 'self service' jobs at Cornwall's 'services'.. First time (only time) I went in there and I thought the self service machines were advertisement boards. Doh! So I went up to the counter and ordered as I normally would, meanwhile, this woman I'm with gets it straight away and goes and orders off the board, and I'm thinking 'what the hell is she doing? Lookin at those fancy display boards for??' We got our grub at the same time though coz it was dead, so I didn't feel like a total plank when I asked her what she'd been doing looking at the pictures of food on the 'advert boards'.

Quick is still available in Belgium: www.quick.be/fr - we always see them on out UK trips on the belgian motorways. As for McD, in Holland they do this, too. You can assemble your meal on some touchpad, pay with your flexible friend, draw a number and then pick it up at the counter. No table service, tho, afaik.

On Radio 4's Unbelievable Truth one time, David Mitchell said that McDonald's had a slogan "there's nothing quite like a McDonald's, which is wrong because Burger King is quite like a McDonald's"

two days ago (im on a weeks holiday from work) i travelled up to london to finally se the musical SUNNY AFTERNOON, as i managed to get a last minute cheap ticket. After the show I had a drink in a pub with a couple of elderly Aussies who were at then show and then headed over to china town. I found that the eating places there did not really cater much for the single diner so i ended up in a mcdonalds, and found ot I could not work the stupid touch screen, so had to eat in a tacky kebab place :-( so much for modern living!
