Took this last August during his curtain call at about 0130 at Venue Cymru, Llandudno. I did feel a bit sorry for the support act who followed his first approximately 2 hour set as so many of the audience being of a certain age exited the auditorium to use the facilities. Two winners from the National Eisteddfod which was being held on Anglesey that weekend also performed which I thought was a nice touch. I am glad I went. There are a number of performers I wish I had seen and left it too late. Material wise I preferred Barry Cryer (82) who I also saw last year but it was an entertaining and funny show with good songs and exactly what his audience wanted.

15-1 was very useful for homework avoidance as I could claim it was educational. :-) It was a surprise to find that he had been responsible for something so different as "The Price is Right". Just a minor correction to MIAS' post- It was the younger Geeson sister Sally in Bless This House who he married.

There was one obituary that said he was the first presenter of The Price is Right forgetting/ignoring Leslie Crowther. I am not sure whether current lack knowledge of anything before 1980 or are a bit twitchy if they haven't been on for while. The deaths of Cliff Michelmore and Peter Dimmock. Major forces in post war television didn't seem to warrant a mention.
Back to topic. In an industry that pigeon holes people Bruce managed to do many different things, and for so long.

What a shame "Oasis" (Peter Skellern, Julian Lloyd Webber and Mary Hopkin) didn't reform and tour. I am sure the music would have been excellent with the bonus of disappointed Gallagher Bros fans.

I also enjoy his work with Richard Stilgoe.

Desmond Carrington, presenter of The Music Goes Round on BBC Radio 2 from 1981 till October last year. Not sure if there is anywhere left to hear such a variety of music or delivered in such a relaxed manner. Started his radio career in forces broadcasting. Also an actor best known for Emergency Ward 10.

Gordon Murray, the man behind Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green, has passed away at the grand old age of 95. Excellent shows and must have been enjoyed by many members of this forum. There is a timeless quality to these shows and I for one am the proud owner of these on DVD. RIP I bought a DVD of Trumpton when the Godbrat was of a suitable age. I enjoyed it. lFirst time I had seen them in colour, my family having a black and white set till about 1980. The Godbrat did not get to watch as I felt that due to the changes over time there was too much outside his sphere of understanding. A poor decision on my part.

It's criminal that 2 entertain (I think) won't release series 2 of Shoestring after releasing the first one. Network now have the rights so it will be forthcoming. I do hope so. Having grown up in Weston-super-Mare I do enjoy location spotting though it is complicated by jumping between Bristol/Avon area and West London. I see a few round here have also contributed to the Shoestring locations site.

Premier Inn definitely, though if the Travelodge is cheaper I'll stay there! Usually stay in the Belfast ones when I'm going to concerts as I'd have to leave halfway through the show to catch the last bus or train home. Stayed in the Ibis once - when I couldn't get a decent price in any of the others (Belfast has 3 Premier Inns and 1 Travelodge). At the end of the day it doesn't really matter how basic it is, I get back after the concert, go to bed and away first thing after breakfast in the morning. The Belfast Travelodge is part of Travelodge Ireland, not UK. Caught me out on something as basic as a teaspoon when I used it going to a gig at the Ulster Hall. Wooden stirrer only which made eating a yoghurt challenging. I do like to try and support independent businesses but for one nighters, especially where I cannot be sure of an arrival time or will be late I will use chains, location and price, sometimes parking being deciding factors. I think Premier Inns are superior but for one night find the usually cheaper Travelodge perfectly acceptable. I do look at Ibis as I have reached the heady heights through their loyalty scheme of a free drink on arrival.

The traveller character played by Jimmy Nail accent covered a fair few miles.
