Really enjoyed watching this again, as I do many of the early episodes before it turned into the 'Arthur Daley Show' in later series. The thing you notice about Series 2 is that Terry is already getting fed up with Arthur and realistically would have bailed out years earlier than he did.
Maurice could have easily warranted his own spin off series as there was more mileage in the character. I liked Valentine and he did a pilot with Euston called 'Tully', which had him as a globe trotting loss adjuster. It was a bit far fetched, yet enjoyable. It didn't go any further.
'You're a schumck Maurice. You always have and you always will be.' I wonder what younger viewers would think of this?

I saw this in the men & motors days but had totally forgotten the plot. Its slightly above average in my book. I didnt really ever warm to the Penny character and thought she was out of order for having a go at Arthur.Mr Parsons I recall was the dad in the great tv show "Johhny Briggs".A very versatile actor.

Watching this today, when the group come out of the casino and find Maurice's tyre has been punctured, is this a trick of Sadie to trap Maurice into getting a lift in the mini? And landing him in it with Mo. Or have I just twigged something that everyone else spotted years ago?

I have always assumed that it was one of Parsons' heavies in a continuing attempt to put Maurice off frequenting to their casino.

But Maurice Michaelson might also have been a good central character for Minder itself had George Cole left for whatever reason. I could see Terry minding Maurice.

Debbie does the tart with a heart bit very well, and frankly a stripper suits somebody in Terry's line of work. Penny's just too middle class for me and a bit, well, mumsy I think.

Arthur does not recognise his own brother and Terry beats him up! :-)

Does anyone know what the music is that Terry is listening to at the start of the episode?

Then again, the music didn’t make an impression until tonight when I watched the episode for the fourth time.

Debbie and Penny. I thought it was great to have too very different sorts of ladies in Terry’s life. I’m not sure Penny was trying to improve Terry, was she? I always thought she took him as he was but just complained about Arthur - but maybe that is implying room for improvement. I agree she was a bit Mumsy - accurate as she was a British Airways stewardess. Debbie indeed was a tart with heart of gold. But surely the point that was these ladies’ roles - strippers and stewardesses - were traditional “objects of desire” of the time - if I can use such a sexist term - and our Tel had pulled one of each!

I always got the impression that Penny was trying to improve Terry. Laid in bed asking him "what are you going to do with your life?" and similar lines. Somehow, to me, Penny never really struck me as Terry's sort and vice versa, to be honest.

Okay my bad - I probably shouldn’t be dabbling in series 2 as I’m watching series 8 now and my memory ain’t what it was. My point was more around folks wanting to chose and me being quite happy with Terry having both!

When Terry returns to the Casino to confront Parsons about the disappearance of Maurice's wife, one of Parsons heavies in the background looks very much like Michael Povey (DC Jones). I don't think it's him though, as I'm sure he would have mentioned it to jno. Agreed. Just watched the episode again and thought the same re: MP as the unnamed heavy. Obviously not, as I’m sure jno would know.
