I always liked Anthony Valentine as Maurice Michaelson. I would have liked to have seen him in more episodes as he was my favourite recurring guest character in the early series. A possible plot line which could have been followed would have been for Maurice to run his own small casino/gambling club. Terry could have had regular work there as a doorman and I'm sure Arthur would have found many ways to make a few quid too.
I agree with all that barry. There was probably mileage enough in Maurice's character for him to have his own spin orf I reckon and if not that a reappearance later on in the series. In Aces High he pretty much dominates the screen time with Arthur & Terry just on major supporting roles. It's a shame I think that Maurice wasn't back for a round three up in series 5 or 6. Scotch Harry was back, just a shame Maurice wasn't considered.

I think the episode is ok but not earth shattering to be honest. Great performances from all concerned and special mention to Beth Morris, who did look lovely.

I like the Kraftwerk inspired music when Terry & Maurice are at Brent Cross looking for Maureen - Karl Jenkins & Mike Ratledge 'Mannheim '79'.

I think that suits the shopping mall scenes absolutely perfectly as they busybody about looking for Maureen. That said, as a standalone track (I have it) I find it hard to listen to and usually move on to the next one in my 'Minder Library Music' folder. I think my absolute favourite piece of library music to listen to outside of its Minder episode (A Star Is Gorn) is 'Slave Driver' by Frank McDonald & Chris Rae - I like all their Minder tracks if I'm honest.

A good amusing episode , but not quite as action packed as others from season 2 It is great to see Maurice as a re occurring character , but as several have mentioned above , probably a bit more frequently A couple of minor roles , for both Lesley Joseph & Lynda Baron ,before getting used to them in their major characters , Dorian & Nurse G-G-G Gladys Maurice continues with his yellow Lotus & there is a nice yellow Triumph Stag in the car park at Brent Cross I just loved the choice of motor , for Parsons heavies to take Maurice for a ride in - a gold Jaguar S Type , one that had managed to survive until 1980 , without ploughing into a stack of oil drums , with a Consul GT in hot pursuit !!!! At the very end , when Terry drives off to follow the "Welsh bird" , note the strange position of his Capri s tax disc , the top of the windscreen on the drivers side , mind you this was his dodgiest Capri of them all !

I agree with you about Terrys Mk1 Capri.
It always seems to be quite a rickety old car. I'd like to know what model this was as sometimes it sounds like a V6 to me but not on every appearance. Could there have been more than one Mk1 used?

Seeing as the registration changed during the first series (sometimes in the same episode) I'd say yes

I recently started watching Minder from the beginning for the second time. It's great to see the episodes again not just because it's fun to watch but because it was so well made it holds up to repeated viewings.
This episode may not be as great as the previous two but it is a good fifty minutes of entertainment.

After Terry comes to the rescue of the Major (retired) in the toilets, you'd think he'd be a bit more appreciative when hes in Terrys flat.

The return of Maurice, my favourite other character, and a good episode here. Totally different feel to Aces High, but equally as nervy stuff with the gambling. Seems funny seeing Ray’s bumbling dad as a casino heavy! Good appearances from Linda Baron and of course the lovely Beth

Watched this overnight on ITV4 I thought it was a really good episode, though I thought Maurice's domestics took up a bit too much time, Maurice was a really good character, and Anthony Valentine played him great, he could have been really smarmy in the hands of different actor, but Anthony made us root for him I thought. Like everyone else I would like to have seen him back again as he played really well with Arthur and Terry as in his previous appearance.
Good to see Brent Cross back in the day, memories etc.

Great to see Maurice again, his performance in 'Aces...' Series 1 was one of the most memorable ones in the entire show's run! Seriously.
For me, this episode doesn't quite hit the highs of 'Aces'. Although Maurice's character develops nicely, he doesn't have the same manic drive and energy.

It's now 2020, post-lockdown, and having watched every series of Frasier for the second time, I have brought out the Complete Minder DVDs. Loving it! Should have started on 23rd March - I'd be done now!!

I Watched this episode again today and enjoyed it. Not as good as Aces High, I agree - but still nice to see Maurice Michaelson again, albeit in a more upmarket setting. Good to see him still running around in the Lotus as well.
I like the Mk1 Capri but, then again, I always had a soft spot for the Mk1 with its more flamboyant lines. Nice to see a black vinyl interior too! Very 70s. In fact, the whole episode still has quite a 70s look and feel to it even though it's filmed in 1980.
Mind you, for me, the 1980s didn't really start until the Falklands War anyway. Not properly. Things still felt quite 70s until then.

Strange how some episodes I remember quite well from many years ago and some hardly at all - maybe just the odd scene. This falls into the former category possibly why I really like it.
I never warmed to Penny and I think this episode plays quite a big part in that. OK Terry's an idiot as regards Arthur and she's right to be annoyed with him and especially him letting the cast of thousands stay at the flat but her lecturing him about his future is really quite patronising.
It's clear in this one that Terry is genuine class as a minder, to the extent that Parsons tries to hire him and IMO he should have accepted. Still wouldn't have made Penny happy but at least it would have got him out from Arthur's clutches.
Rewatching this I thought Parsons might have been William Gaunt, but it wasn't. Lynda Baron was in loads of TV in that era and could turn her hand to almost any character. She got a bit typecast as Gladys Emmanuelle but she's a really great actress and shows it here. Was never keen on Lesley Joseph however.

Rewatching this I thought Parsons might have been William Gaunt, but it wasn't. Yes I thought this was the guy from 'The Champions' and 80s sitcom 'No place like Home' as well.

I really like the idea of returning characters and Maurice and his gambling are up there with the best. Some good additional others especially Linda Baron. Love the bit when she hurls the glass 😂 Arthur at his controlling best, only he could persuade Terry to put up 6 strangers in his flat !!! Brilliant when he declares he’s got some sleeping bags from last expedition to Everest 🤣

A great episode that's enlivened by the great Anthony Valentine and a very funny script.
I did have an idea for what a Minder sequel series could have looked like when Arthur talks about property development on the Costa del Sol - could he and 'er indoors have retired to Spain where Arthur decides to get involved in some dodgy land deals? Of course he'd have ended up ripping off some local ex-cons from the UK and getting into a spot of bother, but maybe it could have lasted six episodes.

Not a fan of this one to be honest. I think the storyline and script is very good but the fact that Terry is blatantly ripped off by Arthur is just nonsense as in reality he would not stand for that . In addition he would have taken up Parsons offer. Also, it was sad to read that Beth Morris passed away in 2018 aged 74.

An enjoyable watch and competently acted by everyone, as usual. Had a flashback to the 1960s seeing Ronald Leigh-Hunt (my parents watched Freewheelers). I thought that the 'missing Maureen' sub-plot was a bit of a filler and as others have said, surely Terry would have had the upper hand in making sure Arthur paid him proper wages, especially as he (Terry) had been deprived of a week alone with Penny.
I remember when Brent Cross shopping centre opened and it was THE place to go to if you were within 50 miles of London (that said, I've never been there).
One thing that puzzled me was that when Terry is being kitted out by Arthur in the lockup, Arthur uses the old spiv's trick of grasping the jacket at the back to make it a tighter fit, but Terry actually complains that it's a bit tight - surely Arthur would have picked up on that and loosened his grip? We don't get to find out how much Arthur eventually fleeced Terry for the clobber, nor who ended up paying for the sleeping bags.

Maurice is back and up to his old tricks. This time he has hit upon a six player system for beating the house at roulette and needs Terry to look after his team of players. I like to see characters returning in later episodes and it is good to see Maurice back again. Lynda Baron makes a welcome appearance. Good episode this one with plenty going on. Lots to keep Terry busy which is a shame for him because he was looking forward to a quiet week spent with Penny (another recurring character). I like 'You Lose Some, You Win Some' - a fun episode with a good story filled with great characters. 4 out of 5.

I think Arthur does loosen his grip if you watch it again kel. As you say, Terry complains that the jacket is a little tight so Arthur lets go of the jacket and says something like, "Try it now,", Terry lifts his arms and shoulders so the jacket falls into place and seems happier with it.
