Yeah well, anyway, it is not the greatest Minder ep ever made.I for one don't really like it. With one exception: Ziggy Byfield , as ever, is marvellous....

Although it's not the funniest I like this one too. There is a lot going on and I like the fact that Arthur has a bit of a sandwich scam going on. When desperate he just slaps it all all together as best he can. Ray is also minding a boozer too which is very much in the vein of series 1 and 2 with Terry. What is nice about this one is the real 90s vibe going on. Suzannah Corbett has an interesting part in this too - very much the 'shut up & listen' laconic put upon female part. She contacted me a few years back as she wanted to speak to Glynn Edwards regarding information about her father Harry H. Corbett - they had been friends years earlier. She has probably got the fewest lines ever in the Ray Daley years. Another interesting thing in this one is the switch of downstairs in the pub in one place to upstairs in another - I don't understand for the life of me why a location scout might do that. Nevertheless the police party is a very humorous few minutes in this and the fact that Arthur has the 'police party' gig for Daley Catering is very well thought writing I think. It's also nice to see Dennis Blanch (from 'Strangers') pop up in this one. It's not a bad one this, with a bit of a chase on now and again. Then we have the lovely Susan (Susie Ann) Watkins who is a contender for shortest skirt ever to appear in a Minder episode. I like her a lot in this and surprised she hasn't gone on to do bigger things. Here's a picture of Ms Watkins from 2015: Lest we forget the title on which this one is based. 'Too Many Crooks' was of course a 1959 that starred George Cole, Terry Thomas, Sid James and Bernard Bresslaw - well overdue for a review in 'Not Minder'.

I just watched this episode, hadn't seen it in about a year or so, it has some great bits in it the sandwich making is a winner oh and yes Susan's super super short skirt is also very easy on the eye. Once you give the Ray years a chance they really are a great watch.

Get me right, Ray years are just as cool, its only that ep itself I don't like too much.
Ray years have one of the best introductions I've seen:
I don't think you met my new Minder? Ray Daley, 'e's family !
Perfect....made me shiver watching it 1st time round.

I watched this last night and thought it was quite a decent episode. As usual, lots of good lines and what seemed like was going to be a good drama filled episode, but fizzled out in the end, Ziggy Byfields character was good and would have been great to see him and his brother have a proper ruck, as you do, but sadly not to be. I think it could have benefited from a slightly darker ending.
I liked the line when Arthur is speaking with Morley and advises him to eat more and when walking away told him to have some pork scratchings.
Although not the best series of Minder, there are some brilliant lines throughout the episodes.

I quite liked this episode. Series Eight has been a bit hit and miss for me which is understandable since the dynamic of the series has changed so drastically. I found this episode a stand out. There are several good, funny moments and some of the usual gems of brilliance brought to us by George Cole.
I always enjoy the way Arthur talks about his latest business venture, whatever it happens to be, like it's going to be a massive success and change the world. Arthur trying to deal with preparing and serving food for the cops was particularly fun.
I spotted David Harewood as one of Vinny's thugs. He is now on Supergirl.

I watched this earlier and it's the first time I've seen it (I still have a few episodes I've yet to see mainly Series 8 although I possibly saw some of them at their original transmission in 1991). I was convinced that Billy was after Henri because he'd slept with his wife (reminding me of Danny Varrow in the series 2 episode 'All About Scoring, Innit'). I thought the girl with him was his wife and not his daughter (these gangster types always have a younger fit bird don't they)however it's not revealed until the very end what Billy wants Henri for so the viewer is left to guess. Billy Meadows certainly seems a nasty villain and is brilliantly played as ever by Trevor 'Ziggy' Byfield and as has been said great to see Dennis Blanch make an appearance. Plenty of amusing moments in a variety of scenes like the sausage rolls and solar powered torches. I particularly liked the line (Morley) "what do you know about Meadows" (Arthur) "only that some bloke and his dog went to mow one". I think there was abit too much time given to the scenes around catering both at the office and pub and not enough time given to the gangsters. Also Ray being a pub bouncer was pretty much a red herring as apart from throwing the old man out he didn't have any trouble to deal with yet the dialogue is set up in a way to lead the viewer to believe there would be trouble (unless scenes were later cut).
Prop wise nice to see packets of KP crisps which have long been discontinued.
A small blooper found, when Henri is running from Billy's heavies he runs past some parked cars a yellow MKII Escort, a blue car possibly a BMW and a white MKI Fiesta as the scene cuts to Colin chasing him the Fiesta and blue car are there but the yellow Escort has vanished and a red van is in it's place.
3/5

Well spotted AlbertWendell, I think this episode is great. Mainly for George Cole's one liners.

I thought the room full of policemen was more of a filler if anything. I think it's clear the real humour was the guys trying to hunt down the young man to be 'captured' towards the end was were the real humour lies. I would have given this episode a 3 out of 5 but I thought it caught me off guard that Arthur Daley burnt this sausage rolls. A man his age over-cooking food, like he never tired cooking before in this lifetime. (I try not to laugh)

Always fascinating to see big stars at the start of their career in minor roles. I kept on thinking that David Harewood was going to do something, solely because he is such a big star now, but he was only minor heavy.
Still, kudos to the casting director that he was in it at all.

Susie Ann Watkins - what a sort. May have to take the crown as top bird of the entire programme.

Susie Ann Watkins - what a sort. May have to take the crown as top bird of the entire programme. Like Debbie, Susie Ann was known for doing 'artistic poses', but I don't think she ever looked better than in this episode.

The Warrington is a lovely pub. It's where the Sweeney Episode 'Night Out' was set. Once owned by Gordon Ramsey. Well worth a visit.

Afternoon All Re watched today and a good episode , always good when some big time criminals are fighting on the manor, plenty of scope with Daley catering to get some good set pieces in , especially the upstairs room at the pub ! and a great line straight away ' Sell you hooky chickens !" Yes they only have one leg make them easier to catch ", as talked about before the lovely Mandy with her new computer " its all bytes and Floppys" Arthur actually having to get involved with the catering at the pub , folding the Cheese sandwiches in half and burning the Sausage Rolls , I love the way his Hair always goes out of place when he is flustered ! clever idea to have Policeman" Sam's retiring do at the pub , with Arthur shaking the Supers hand while Morley is watching.. Little background bits Chiswick Bitter on at the Winchester, Ray reading Arena magazine in his flat, and Rays shirt at the beginning the Paisley one ... yes I had one as well ! The then and now shot....Not the pub they used internally , but just along from Daley Catering there was a shop called Modinstal, right next to that you can see a Courage sign ( any one know where that is or what it is now ?) Cheers

The Winchester is just a 1 bedroom bedsit. As soon as you open the door there’s a toilet. During filming they had to black it out and you will notice that anyone going in has to turn to the right as they go in. See jno’s interview with the art director for more info: www.minder.org/joyce/joyce.htmNot sure on the name of the pub although it can probably be seen in one of the episodes I should imagine.

Some good, some strange.Would Arthur shell out for an office (complete with brass name plate) when his idea of an office is 3 public phone boxes and why would he get a computer for a chef and a waitress. He wouldn't even get Ray a 'puter and at least he knew how to use one.
Poor episode for my money.
Just worked out why Arthur needs the computer...So the heavies can smash it later in the ep.

Just watched this one for the first time in ages. Ziggy Byfield was great and a very convincing gangster. I knew I had seen him somewhere before and he played Eric, the club manager in the classic Only Fools episode where Raquel and Tony sing ‘Cwying’....I found it a little odd however that his brother had a stronger Birmingham accent than he did despite he was still the Birmingham resident...! Susan Watkins looks stunning and it is a shame there was not more seen of her on tv....(Appearance wise). I really enjoyed it, some classic Arthurisms and him making the Sandwiches is very funny.

First time I have seen this episode today, and I loved it. It had great villains, great dialogue, and so many twists and turns it reminded me of the Dennis Waterman years. I really think the Ray Daley years (from episode 8.1 to 8.10) have been just terrific, I know a lot of people are down on the Watermanless episodes, but I really am enjoying them, I think these episodes have aged quite well, and George Cole is just awesome as always.
I loved towards the end of the episode when DS Morley says "look Park, it's the Galloping Gourmet" when they approach Arthur et al at the Winchester. Graham Kerr's persona as the Galloping Gourmet began as a TV series in Canada in 1969 to 1971, so it made me quite pleased to see a Canadian TV show reference being used in a Minder episode.
I thought it was funny that the daughter Sadie was seen using the computer in Arthur's catering office. The last we saw of that computer was with Mandy pulling her hair out in trying to figure out how to set the computer up, and it looks like Sadie set it up herself so she had something to do in the office while she was waiting there with Billy Meadows for hours and hours.

I enjoyed this episode although only as far as a Good - with Arthur offering Morley some pork scratchings indeed as a wonderful line. I thought the villains were all very well played and although the plot all hung on the coincidences of Arthur employing Henri, and the rozzers having their do above the pub, that was fine. Ray did indeed do a Terry, both in minding a pub and taking off with the good looking girl at the end. Morley's curmudgeonly tendencies were emphasised when he only puts 50p in the collection box and he is truly baffled when he sees Arthur doing the rounds with the wine bottle - that is amusing - Morley does do baffled very well. The plot was nicely paced, with some nice tension between Arthur and Ray. And Dave even caught Arthur - the uncle - out in the last frame. Like I say, Good but not as far as Excellent.
