This episode just has to have one of the best running gags... I'll say no more than flared jeans! Absolutely priceless! "Don't flare up"!!!

My favourite Minder. It has everything comedy, good fight scene and Arthur at his cowardly best. The scene when he hides behind the curtain in the Winchester when the fight kicks off is probably the most famous of all his scenes. I just love this one.

You know when you have Pete Postlethwaite in the cast you are in for a treat and it was, yet another quality episode.
Good dialogue, a few punch ups, which Arthur manages to avoid yet again, the scene when he is hiding behind the curtain then the puff of cigar smoke appearing was a great touch.

Another thing about this episode is, there is a model police box (looks like a money box that was around at the time) on one of the shelves in Terry's flat in this episode, was Terry a Doctor Who fan?

In an article in music paper 'Melody Maker' about cockney villains on 17th April 1982 that mentions Minder, this photo of George Cole with the wet trousers and a towel is used, showing that he did get a little wet while filming this episode on Metropolitan Wharf.

Another very good Series Three episode. The show was really on a roll during its third year. I agree with all the positive comments already made!

Probably my second favourite episode behind Poetic Justice, Innit? The office block where Jack introduces Terry to Neville was also used in the Man In A Suitcase episode 'Who's Mad Now?'

Excellent episode. Pete Postlethwaite made Oily Wragg a very likeable character. Always good to see the brilliant Peter Childs as Rycott. Some very good fight scenes in this one and Arthur's scenes (falling asleep at Terry's, hiding from the villains in the Winchester and of course, falling into the Thames). Sadly, this was to be the last appearance by George Layton as Des.

I was also wondering why he never appeared again. maybe his availability was limited, hence they created Arnie.

Some very good fight scenes in this one During the fight on the jetty at the end of the episode, Des is lying on the floor whilst Archie Simpson is trying to hit him with the long handled hook/pike thing. Hargreaves (Simpson) was obviously putting his heart into the scene as each time the hook makes contact with the floor, it leaves quite a mark in the surface! It's a good thing that the timing between Layton and Hargreaves was spot on

If I remember rightly, didnt he present some episodes of Playschool and Jackanory?

Nice spotting there yoyo - who knows? Could be! He probley got it from Arthur who knew Doctor Who was popular in America at the time and was looking to flog them on to Yank punters.

I know it's been mentioned before but I have been waiting on the episode with the wonderful puff of cigar smoke from behind the curtain after the fight in the club. Just found it. Splendid! Also Arthur emerging from the Thames still wearing his hat. Never tire of the genius of this programme.

Watched this again last night on the recommendation of our Flip Flop loving friend Barry the Book.
It is such a good episode and has everything you want from a Minder episode and great watching Dave/Glynn in his pomp.
Love the scene at the end down at the docks when Oily escapes blighty.

“SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGG!” I thought David Hargreaves was very good in the role, he is someone I usually associate with playing straight put upon characters rather than a nut job.

I also thought it was strange the way in which Arthur was robbed by the guy who owned the shops he was looking at getting for Oily and it was never followed up.
Maybe it was just accepted that you don't mess with people away from your own manor.

The first time I saw this episode I was probably around 10 years old and couldn't believe DH could play this type of role as i'd been used to seeing him present childrens programmes, all quiet and smiles.
