Clearly this one SHOULD have been the final episode in series 2. For years we thought it wasn't all because the DVDs are all in the wrong order all based on the London transmission schedule. Of course, it totally makes sense that there is a cliff hanger at the end of the series which is what this one gives us.
Poor old Terry is shafted from all angles in this episode I have to say. Anorak point of interest here is that we see an alternative actor Ken Sharrock as D.C. Jones before "Jones" came back played by my fellow Welsh Michael "Meic" Povey in the following series.
Great episode and I have to say it is probably a good 8/10 from me.

She came to a sad end. She also makes a fictional appearance as a judge in the beauty contest in the 'Trove' episode of Endeavour.

Loved when Arthur was sworn in and said this,
I swear by almighty god the evidence I give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth stand on me.
Class!! Really good episode. Really think series Two and three are the best.

Gave this a watch tonight, a really good episode and some cracking lines. For some reason I always remembered it as Terry got sent down for this, but I reckon I must have last watched this as a kid.
Des is just a brilliant character, played superbly by George Layton. The goldfish storyline was priceless also, especially the woman chasing after Stevie from the multi storey flats, I wonder if she gave herself black eyes whilst running? I hate touching fish also, so sympathised with Terry.
A very good episode and I think I would agree with Garytomo about series 2 being the best.

A fantastic episode to end series two. Poor Terry gets dumped on from all sides. Arthur's scheme with the gold fish is so off the wall it's brilliant. My favorite moment is when Arthur is in court swearing to tell the truth. He's lucky he didn't burst into flame or something!

I do like the scene where Arthur & Terry are walking to Lady Margaret Thompson's house and Arthur is telling Terry how to behave. Terry replies "Alright, Alright. I come from good peasant stock!" Arthur's 'Everything's fine' telephone conversation with Harry is also quite amusing.

Great episode to finish such a strong second series. You certainly do feel for Terry here and how he suffers at the hands of Des and the posh crooks. Bit of a cliffhanger, but it would have been a crime not to do any more episodes. Not sure how good the ratings were at this point but thank goodness shows were allowed to grow in those days.

This clapperboard was for sale some time ago. Sadly, I didn't get it. I believe it could be the same one that features in the outtake from this episode found on the Australian Umbrella DVD releases. From outtake: Also some more evidence of when this was filmed - definitely in September 1980 as ... (a) the same clapperboard shown at 90 degrees and (b) the Eddie Shoestring Radio Times cover edtion from 4th-10th October 1980. The Radio Times was usually out a few days before.

jno, your detective skills in discovering Minder information and merchandise would send poor Eddie Shoestring to have another mental breakdown.

The 16.9.80 dates are obviously the same on those boards but it seems a bit odd that the one for sale is scene 99 and the other one is 100? Would they have more than one board per set up?

More than likely felix I would say - I might have been mistaken in my original thought this was the same clapperboard. If you look closely, it is indeed the same style handwriting but on the one that was for sale, the "19" in "1980" is present and on the other one it simply written "80" (2 digit year).

When Terry is being held in custody, "Chisholm" rings up the Thompson residence and asks to speak to Lady Margaret. It's obviously not Pat Malahides' voice on the other end of the phone Wonder why and whose voice it was.

Love the opening scenes in Arthur's lockup where Arthur is trying to coerce Terry into putting the goldfish into the little plastic bags and Terry refuses point blank to do it, then drives the Luton box van back to Des.
Also love the scenes in Des's garage where Terry threatens Des with a good hiding after finding out that the car of Des's that he (Terry) had been driving had earlier that day been used in an armed robbery.
The only scene that I find really cringeworthy and have to skip is where Stevie parks his van outside the council flats and chants 'OLD CLOTHES FOR FISH' and all the kids come swarming out of the flat block armed with their parents' clothes and the 'irate' mother gives her son a good thrashing on the stairwell of the flats and swears at him, and then screams verbal abuse at Stevie before he manages to drive off.
Today that scene would no doubt cause mass controversy as it (most certainly by today's standards) depicts an act of child abuse. (eek!!)

'Old Clothes for Fish' - this always makes me laugh to be honest. For me it is so outside the realms of everyday expression, nobody would ever say it and shows just how low Arthur is willing to stoop for an earner by sending his stooge off to 'sell his sole' (boom boom) for a measly few sovs.

'Old Clothes for Fish' - For me it is so outside the realms of everyday expression, nobody would ever say it Without listening to it to be sure, I always thought Stevie says "Old Cloak for fish!", which because of the word 'cloak' i assumed to be a derivation of a term used by rag & bone men or something.

3/5 for me,as per jno's original comments, the subject matter made it the perfect series 2 closer,it was just a little far-fetched & how could Des be in court and want to be so distant from the whole process. Sure Terry was right to storm away from them & Dave,as often the case is the honourable man in the middle,or more justifiably sides with Terry.....

This ep has one of my favourite Dave lines in...Outside the court, when Terry is understandably not too happy, Des says (about Arthurs character reference for him)'he did you a right turn in there' Dave quips 'gave him a right turn you mean'' (referring to the judge)

I don't think Id seen this one , since late 80s ITV repeats A good episode with some great one liners & Terry s fallout with Des over the getaway Cortina was very amusing Margaret describing Arthur as "something out of the 50s " was also a good line Chisholm always addresses Terry by his first name , in this one , where as in later series , he always refers to him as Mcann just like he uses Daley when referring to Arthur I'm sure the guy selling the fish was in the first Sweeney episode , Ringer , where Regan rants "we re The Sweeney son , & we haven't had any dinner" When Arthur & Terry first arrive at Margaret s house , we see parked outside , a bright green Matra Rancho , which is what you arrived at , if you crossed a Simca van with the Popemobile , mind you in today s world of ugly people carriers & 4x4 s , it probably would have been a better seller Also worth a mention , is Arthur s golf clobber , hilarious , even Simon Bates wouldn't wear that on TOTP !!!

Season Two certainly ended on a high note. I enjoyed this even more the second time. I do think Terry should have clocked Des. He certainly had it coming. Arthur in the witness stand is yet another bit of George Cole brilliance. The stuff with Stevie and gold fish is amusing especially when the irate mother comes after him. At times, to my American ears, it sounds like Stevie is saying, "Croak the fish!"
Just an all round top episode.

I would agree with the cliff hanger ending, considering it was season 2, giving me a reminder about how far Minder has got into since the first season. Loved when Arthur was sworn in and said this, I swear by almighty god the evidence I give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth stand on me. Class!! Really good episode. Really think series Two and three are the best. He said something else hadn't he? But I know what you mean... yeah, I thought that was funny also OMG, I wasn't even around then and now I also believe that would be the case of break of episodes.

A good episode, which I enjoyed watching this afternoon (on ITV4).
Some good guest stars in this episode - Glyn Houston (Harry), Angela Browne (Lady Margaret Thompson) and Colin Prockter (Stevie).
Thanks to Des (George Layton), Lady Margaret Thompson and Arthur (failing to inform Terry, about Lady Margaret's, problem), Terry, got into plenty of trouble, in this episode.
Lots of good scenes, in this episode, I liked the scenes, where Arthur, was trying to play Golf, with Harry, and the scenes with the fish and Stevie.
4/5, from me (for this enjoyable episode).
