Has anyone noticed when Terry is at Stamford Bridge watching Chelsea play - the part when Terry gets his name put on the scoreboard by his 'Uncle Arthur', just before he leaves the terrace he reacts to his mates taunts by saying 'w****r' and doing the appropriate hand gesture. Classic!

Was watching this tonight when it dawned me on that the writer 'Jeremy Burnham' is suspiciously similar to the name of the bent antique dealer in 'National Pelmet'. Wasn't he called the hon. Jeremy Burnham Jones?
Wonder if there is an in joke in there somewhere?

Gave this a watch last night, another very good episode in my opinion. Some good lines, especially when Arthur was lamenting about footballers having too much Sex, Soccer and Stair Rods. Karl Howman and George Sweeney pop up here and play their characters very well, with Bill Dean (or Harold Cross from Brookside) doing in a great job as the policeman at Stamford Bridge telling Terry his mother had been killed, then getting thrown out when discovered it is all a hoax. The actress who played Jenny, Adrienne Posta, was also pretty easy on the eye, always a bonus in any TV programme.

A lot of ad-libbing went on between Arthur and Terry and luckily the cameras were kept running to capture it and put it out in the final productions. Some quality material which some directors may have dismissed.

Yet another highly enjoyable episode. I love how Arthur can find 'an earner' in any circumstance or at least he thinks he can. That trait goes right back to the opening episode and only seems to increase as I get further in the series. That's one of the things that makes Arthur Daly such a great character.
Arthur visiting Terry in the hospital was a wonderful scene and perfectly played by George and Dennis.

I recently found out that Chelsea were in the old Second Division when that match was played. I always assumed it was a First Division game with it being Chelsea!

No from 79-around 84 Chelsea were in Div 2. Never forget the smell of horse cr*p and fried onions wafting down Fulham Broadway every other Saturday.

Great episode throughout here. Dennis is obviously enjoying doing a football themed one. Arthur was great when shouting "thickheads and louts" at the long gone hooligans. Special mention to George Sweeney, playing a comic hard nut. Possible in joke when he says he "doesn't like hitting birds"? The scene when he and Terry recognise each other is very good too.

Being a football fan, I have always liked this episode, Karl Howman (who I will always remember most, from the Sitcom Brush Strokes), was very good in the role of Danny Varrow, also good to see George Sweeney and Adrienne Posta, in this episode.
I can remember finding out, a few years ago, that Rafferty's secretary, was played by Gill Clark, who was a member of the dance troupe Legs & Co, who appeared on Top Of The Pops, from 1976-1981.
Good to see, that Gill, got to say one line (five words) in this episode.

This episode is not shown on ITV during the day. I wonder what is offensive in it?

A great episode. Lots of good stuff in this one of course...but there is one scene/line by Arthur that really sticks in my mind (for some reason..especially when I've got a hangover...)...A+T are driving down the road and Ronnie Rakes had just finished his bender in the Winchester earlier that day and taken away in a taxi...when Terry says something like (referring to Ronnie) ''but he wont talk to you'' and Arthur says ''I know, I know, but he'll hanging in rags right now'' (or similar) indicating he'll be having a massive hangover I guess...as I say for some reason this Arthur line keeps coming back to me...great ep

Noticed a blooper. Danny's yellow car has its back window blown out by the gun but seconds later it's in one piece.

Good spotting leaveitoutjohn, that is correct - clearly you can get quicker than a kwik fit fitter! Meanwhile leaveitoutjohn (in the words of Arthur Daley in this episode): I am not paying you to read papers in my time. I'm bunging you for three hours graft this morning, not for sitting down reading football tittle-tattle in the illiterates' answer to the Beano. Another strange one in this - at 32m15s as Arthur walks into the press office after having had a few, there is a September 1980 calendar on the one wall and a close up shot of January 1974 calendar on the other.

Watched this earlier today. The scenes of Arthur searching for and then finding Rakes are pure quality. Lovely script delivered perfectly by GC, I had to rewind it twice just to savour it again and again - brilliant, just a pity ITV4 edited out one of the best Minder lines ever from Rakes - "You want to sell me Danny Varrows story? An odyssey through the bedrooms of the nations faceless slags!" I only realised on this viewing that the Fleet Street barmaid was the same actress that played the role of Iris in 'The Sweeney - Night Out', funny how you can miss these things for years and then pick up on them out of the blue.

In point of fact, the rear screen hasn't been repaired but a piece of plastic sheeting has been used to cover the hole

I remember in this episode Terry says his mother is long since dead. I could be wrong but I think there is another episode that contradicts this...I can't remember which one though. Can anyone help?

You are right, Terry tells someone that his mum thinks that he is a chauffeur. I can’t remember what episode it is or who the conversation is with... I think it’s with Penny so probably ‘Not A Bad Lad, Dad’ or ‘Monday Night Fever’.
