Great episode, obviously watched many times - but was on ITV4 this afternoon, a comfortable 4/5 I’ve said it before & am glad they do, despite being cut, I'm more than happy to watch, or at least have Minder, Sweeney & The Pros on - even if they’re in the background!
They’ve been the core programmes of ITV4 for many years & long may it continue!

A corker of an episode. Minder at its best (in my opinion).

Don't know if there's any Men Behaving Badly fans here, but the groom that Arthur threatens to wipe out with his King Fu played Tony's (Neil Morrissey's) brother in an episide of it. Different hairstyle but same bloke.

Different hairstyle but same bloke. Yep, it's Pete Lee Wilson, take a look back earlier in this thread. Without wanting to drift too much off topic, the Men Behaving Badly episode was this one: www.imdb.com/title/tt0646228/ and another half famous role he did was DS Claire Stanton's undercover boss in the Don Beech scandal in 'The Bill' in 2000.

Arthur had a bruise on his face after the rugby match but when he was in the pub that night it had completely vanished

Enjoyed this one again the other day. Georgina Hale did explain why she had to re-voice her part at a Sweeney meet up once. I think at first it was either too over the top - or not over the top enough!Forgotten about the 'snapdragon' term though - might start using that! hehe. Can't help wondering why when Terry confronted Trev about who was working the previous night in the Ria, Trev didn't realise he'd been rumbled! Anyways, bit of a slang in this one I can figure out. Terry says to Arthur while munching his sarnie in the Winchester "And what was all that Sainsburys you give me about seeing the VAT man...?", it's clear what he means. But where does Sainsbury's come from? It was all whole year before Chas & Dave came out with "you got more rabbit than Sainsburys..." so was "Sainburys" as a term for talk around before then? Or does mean "ballcocks"? I've never heard it used in that context anywhere else. Discuss! :-) P.S. I just read George Cole's autobiography and he says that in the script when he catches the ball in the rugby game the game was just supposed to stop. The kids chasing after him and tackling him was completely improvised. Not sure how true that is watching the finished programme... but that's what he says! Yowsers I can't imagine it being any worse, her voice in this episode goes through me and I struggle to watch it all the way through in one go because of it.

Fantastic episode. Working my way through the collection and this is the first I've given a maximum rating. Full of nicely observed little characters, all played to perfection :
the bored but efficient hotel recetionist the second-rate brass - sorry, part time mo-dell the steretype night porter cum jazz musician, with his gramaphone (!) the hotel cook - (absolutely top marks to the costume department on this one too) the officious school master running the line and, of course, Brian Glover's finest hour - well, 48minutes (I know fans of Kes might disagree...)

I like this episode quite a bit but Georgina Hale's voice grates on my ears. That's the only reason I couldn't bring myself to vote this episode as "excellent". Her voice makes my teeth itch.

Not a bad wee episode. I enjoyed Brian Glovers acting in this. I must have rewound the sequence with a hungover Arthur on the phone to Terry. Er indoors seemed to be in the bedroom opening the blinds but no sign of her..
The prossies(Yorkies description not mine) accent really did my head in. I’m guessing she was trying for something between sexy, sultry, common and posh.
Special mention to the crazy chef in the grotty kitchen. I thought Our Tel was a bit out of order rummaging about the guys room after meeting the chef.
As has been mentioned elsewhere the scene with Arthur on the rugby pitch, priceless. George was in his mid fifties when he went on that mazy run with the ball. He looked like he enjoyed that scene with a wry smile. I must say the wee kids never held back in the tackle. Hope he got it on one take.
What a nick the groom looked for his wedding day. Then after nearly running them off the road, Arthur’s full of the road rage looking for a scrap..
Renee’s singing at the end classic. I liked the last song in her repertoire when Arthur and Yorkie joined in. I thought Arthur looked genuinely pissed at the end.

All good points sh7. The Chef is a lovely character who thinks he's something important (many Chefs think their position gives them this entitlement) but Terry humours him and lets him dream on.
The schoolboy rugby scene is priceless and quite real imo, I can't see this would have been rehearsed, one take I reckon. I wonder how many of the lads involved are now middle aged men who watch Minder and say that they were involved in this episode?

Boarding school or one-orf Saturday game, has to be. At the school I was at, you had to wear your uniform at those sorts of things as you were still representing the school.

Renee sneaking a couple of swigs of Gin straight from the bottle (which is hidden amongst her houseplants) whilst Yorkie gives his betting shop staff a b#ll#cking over the phone is great, especially after she's denied Yorkie a Light Ale to "Get rid of the taste of Gaaarlic!" Watched this episode the other day, and enjoyed it this time round so much more than previously - not sure why that is, but it might've been all the funny little asides like this that I suddenly noticed: Renee swigging gin under the cover of the houseplants had me laughing out loud. When she's going through all the hotels in the telephone directory is very funny, too - whatever you think of her voice, she uses it to a 't' in that scene! And that line of Yorkie's "You from London and you've not heard of Arthur Daley?!", with her reply "Not from London. I'm from Westcliffe", said with such suburban pride! Brilliant! The other minor character that stands out for me is the grubby chef when Terry sneaks through the hotel kitchen - he looks just like one of the faces in Viz's 'Drunken Bakers'. And the scene back in Yorkie's Rotherham bookies/taxi-office is done really well, too. These are the sort of things that I really love about 'Minder'.

As not everyone here reads it, here's a picture I posted in our Hazell thread elsewhere on the forum recently which seems in a similar vein to kusumkangguru's previous post. The minder.org dodgy blue cortina's number plate turns up in the series 2 episode 'Hazell & The Greasy Gunners' as a silver taxi: Link to our 'Hazell' thread here: minder.proboards.com/thread/351/hazell-1978-1979The blue cortina with same plate also turns up in three other Minder episodes. Here's a link to other similar dodgy motors that featured on Minder, on the minder.org site here: www.minder.org/cars/dodgymotors.htm

Great episode this. Georgina Hale stealing every scene she's in as usual. And as for the chef
Edit - just got to the rugby scene. Classic GC facial expression.

Edit - just got to the rugby scene. Classic GC facial expression. I've always thought that this scene couldn't have been rehearsed. Ok so everyone's got an idea of what they're meant to be doing but it must have been a 'we'll take a chance and see what happens' type of thing. Turned out very well though, convincing and humorous.

After the king-fu fight with the newly-wed Terry tells Arthur 'Behave yourself. You look like a Spurs supporter with those braces!". Another superb ad-lib I reckon?

Enjoyed this one. A subtle bit of continuation from the previous episode using a northern character albeit the two episodes unrelated to each other. Some memorable scenes including Arthur and Yorkies sing along at the start. The various locations used the cafe, the hotel and the pubs made it a good rounded episode and I thought the hotel cook played his part very well having mistaken Terry for an employee of “sunbeam laundry” funny scene.

Another one I remember quite well from the 1980s. Brian Glover being his usual typecast idiotic northern character but Georgina Hale is hilarious rather than annoying IMO. OK there is a bit too much slapstick with the trousers and Yorkie's syrup plus some outlandish characters and scenes but the overall feeling is good and A&T work together to get the result. A strong 4/5 if only for Arthur nicking and running with the rugby ball

Great episode this. Still makes me laugh. Brian Glover is wonderful in everything. Us older ones will remember Georgina Hale in Budgie in the 70's. She was also in a very funny episode of One Foot in the Grave. Played a landlady in a B&B where Victor Meldrew and his wife stayed. 5/5 for me.

Speak for yourself spike but I mainly remember the superb GH for her breakfast scene in McVicar and the telephone operator in the second Sweeney film. Brilliant actress who plays off Glover to perfection in this episode.

This is my go to episode, I love every Terry/Arthur episode of Minder, but for me this is my favorite, a classic from start to finish, watched it again this morning on ITV4, love when Brian Glover breaks the Wendy house when trying to put on his trousers............

love when Brian Glover breaks the Wendy house No dialogue, no build up to the scene, Glover and Waterman with deadpan expressions - Brilliant! This could so easily have been a nothing, pointless scene unless you appreciate the finer points of the series but it's very funny imo. Yorkie looks like a naughty schoolboy who's been found out after doing something wrong when he breaks his way out of the Wendyhouse which is about right seeing he's a married man who's just woken up next to a tart
