Peter Mayhew, best known for playing Chewbacca in several Star Wars films has passed away. He also appeared, uncredited, as the Minotaur in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. Han Solo and Chewbacca were always my favorite characters in Star Wars. In the more recent films he served as "Chewbacca Consultant" to the actor now playing the character.
Rest In Peace

Steadfastly refused to sign ANY Star Wars items at those autograph fairs. He'd sign his promotional photos, but NOTHING of Chewbacca. In the end, he was pulled through the many complaints he had against him.
Anyway, I'm not a fan of Star Wars at all....but still wish him RIP.

I posted it elsewhere when someone wanted info on these autograph fairs that did the rounds. Anthony Daniels (C3PO) was even worse to fans. Likened them to 'morons'

To be fair, I'll assume that he was concerned that if he signed a Star Wars item, it would be on ebay a few hours later for a ludicrous amount of $$$$$$$$$$. A signed photo of Peter would probably not be anywhere near as saleable as a signed Chewbacca figure in a box! Some people are shameless! I remember watching Star Wars at the cinema in early 1978. Great film, best of them all. The original cast were the best. Chewy was great, he could have been a disaster - a seven foot guy in a big dog suit! - but he was as much of a character as any of them.

Totally get that, however, when the fair is advertised with Star Wars characters and their booth/stall is festooned with Star Wars imagery, you'd be a tad annoyed if you get the equivalent of a wet fish slapped across your face! I'd LOVE to attend one of these fairs just to rip the pi$$ out of the has-beens and out of work actors who flog their signature from £15 upwards. It must be pretty demoralising for them as well. However, some like Caroline Munroe who is well known for being lovely and signs stuff for free for her adoring fans. This says quite a lot, I think people have wised up to the high prices charged on top of the NO MERCHANDISE rule. autographica.co.uk

RIP Oh another one of those guys who didn't like signing posters and papers. Really makes me wonder why, I mean the character he played was almost a neglected character.
