Not really surprised he has died aged 74. He passed away on February 10th but news only broke today.
His last screen credit was way back in 2003 as alcohol and drug abuse took their toll.
RIP

JMV was a hero of mine in the 80s. No secret I loved 'Airwolf' and still do. It is an 80s classic imho and I own the German Bluray set.
He was always good in all stuff he was in, despite some of it being real trash. Lots of TV appearances over the years. Worth checking out 1989's 'Hit List', 1991's ' 'Raw Nerve' and 1993's 'Hidden Obsession', all of which are in my cellar collection.
Worth chucking out is 1993's 'Sins of Desire'. Utter soft p0rn rubbish.
His demise over the years has been well documented and it has been a tragedy watching a 70s and 80s heartthrob crumble away. In a way, this was long overdue and much of it contributed to by himself.
Whatever you think of him, I say thanks to JMV for hours of moody performances and many years of great entertainment.
RIP

The captain of his own destiny with his addictions. Never a fan, but felt for him and his spectacular career nosedive. RIP JMV

I never watched 'Airwolf'. The two films that I will remember JMV for are 'The Mechanic' (1972) with Charles Bronson and the surfing movie 'Big Wednesday' (1978). They are both class films.

I think he made a few interesting films in the 1970s at least, and of course one absolute classic in Big Wednesday.
Later on in his career he would occasionally pop up in a genuinely good role (Buffalo 66) from time to time, but by and large he was shot by the 90s.
Overall I think his output was good enough to warrant me having a few ‘JMV films’ in my collection. I mean movies like The Mechanic, Vigilante Force, White Line Fever, Defiance. All enjoyable movies.

Yes, 'Big Wednesday' is JMV's finest hour IMO. First rate film.

He COULD and SHOULD have appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean. He had that rugged, weathered look, and THAT stump!

Have you got Xtro 2 Arch? I know HBD doesn't reckon much to it but I've seen a couple of trailers and it looks like an ok Aliens clone. Tempted to give it a try.

I may have it on dvd, truly sad but I can’t remember.

My DVD of 'Big Wednesday', JMV's finest effort, has just arrived. I cannot believe it's not out on BD! When the swell comes at the end, the waves are always really garbled on dvd iirc

It is out on BD in the USA. The pq so far on the DVD is really crisp and clear. The BD must be fantastic. JMV, despite being 33/34 looks incredibly young.
