Another part of my childhood gone. I liked him in Never The Twain with Donald Sinden as well as It Ain't Half Hot Mum.
RIP Windsor

No one played a Sgt, Major as well as he could. Whether it be in It Ain't Half Hot Mum or Terrahawks. Such a shame that his best loved role will probably never be seen on TV again, because the programme is now considered to be un-PC.
A great and underrated actor.

Oh dear, this is turning out to be a rather sad day. Brilliant in 'IAHHM'. Always a welcome face in whatever TV or film production he was in.
He had been married to his wife for 62 years.
RIP

I only just discovered he wasn't actually Welsh, born in Canning Town.
One, if not the only Welsh accent I remember from childhood and I did like him as an actor.
He popped up in an episode of Special Branch I caught the other week and having just checked he is another actor who never appeared in the holy trinity.
RIP

He was brilliant in 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' - a show that really merits more recognition today - and was a dependable and welcome presence in everything he did.

Many remember him from Never the Twain when it first appeared.
Less well known, he also had a 1975 number 1 called 'Whispering Grass'.

The best Sgt Major in the biz. Carry On Behind. Good film. Never The Twain was a good laugh as well.
RIP Windsor

Very sad to hear this , a childhood favourite with me as well . I thought he was absolutely hilarious in It Aint Half Hot Mum . You always had to stay tuned to the very end to hear his booming voice , cry SHAAADAAAP . HMV have the boxset of the complete series , so definitely now worth a purchase . RIP "Lovely Boy!! "

RIP Windsor. A great actor. He also appeared in a number of NZ TV ads in the 80s.
I loved his "SHUT UP!!!"

Another sad loss. IAHHM and Never the Twain were both very good and his role in Carry on Camping(?) was funny as well, calling Jack Douglas H-ernest.
Not making light of his passing for one moment but I can hear Sgt Major Williams saying, "Oh dear, how sad, never mind."
RIP sir.

Ahhh this is sad news, another childhood favourite gone - IAHHM, Carry On Behind, Never the Twain - all good fun and cherished memories from simpler times. I like to think he and Jack Douglas are deciding upon a "Wickhams Fancy or a Ginger Quill"
RIP Sergeant Major sir

A fitting send off from the Terrahawks:
For those of you that have not seen it, Windsor also featured in Grand Slam (1977). It’s something of a cult classic film in Wales and is freely available on YouTube:

I can also remember a series of car adverts that Windsor Davies & Don Estelle did in the late 70s , for the British Leyland dealer chain , Wadham Stringer . As they were mainly based along the South coast & in the West Country , I think they only would have appeared on Southern & Westward . Don Estelle was usually playing the customer & Windsor Davies was the salesman trying to convince him , how marvellous the latest Princess or Maxi was ! Just goes to show what a good actor he was !

He was quite a prolific character actor prior to IAHHM, but low profile.
He did appear in an episode of 'U.F.O.' IIRC.
R.I.P. Windsor Davies.

RIP Windsor Davies Loved him in the Carry on film Carry on Behind, also used to watch Never the Twain, whilst he was obviously well known for IAHHM, I never really found it that funny.
I did watch Grand Slam last week as a bit of a tribute, I read somewhere that was his favourite performance, I was surprised that that, it wasn't the great film.
I can't imagine there ever being another like him.
