Wrote his first script in 1940 apparently. I was surprised when I saw this on TV this morning as I thought he had left us years ago.
96 is a great age though and I am sure he packed a lot of living into his years.
RIP
EDIT: Just read that he along with Eric Sykes and another pal went to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp not long after its liberation.

Suave and debonair host. Always had a touch of class when presenting. RIP Dennis

A great wit along with the likes of Barry Cryer and Frank Muir. These chaps did far more work writing funny scripts for others than they did appear before the cameras.
RIP

Suave and debonair host. Always had a touch of class when presenting. RIP Dennis When he presented he always carried a clipboard. He was terrified of presenting and his hands would shake badly if he didn't hold something. So one day he was handed a clipboard and it just stuck. I'm sure I saw him say that in an interview once. RIP Denis.

I was another who only really knew of his work with “It’ll Be Alright on the Night” but I did recently see a YouTube documentary where he commented warmly about the Goons, and having been brought up in a house where my father was a fan, this was music to my ears. RIP Denis 😕

EDIT: Just read that he along with Eric Sykes and another pal went to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp not long after its liberation. R4 played an interview with him this evening where talks about that. There was also an excerpt from Eric Sykes' autobiography where he describes what they saw. Powerful stuff.

Some more sad news , another favourite of mine , from the days when It ll be Alright on the Night , was the only out take show going & it was still fresh to see actors & actresses making fools of themselves . Somehow , whenever I ended up with a clip board on my arm , I always ended up doing an impression of him , pronouncing "c¤ck up" , much to the delight of my mates - RIP

A talented man and a class act who packed a lot into his long successful life. I always enjoyed IBAOTN right from the beginning in '77.
RIP sir
