Probably best known for the brilliant 'Carry on Screaming' and 'The Prisoner'.
Good age to reach. She was only a couple of months from her 91st birthday.
RIP.

Very sorry to hear this. The BBC obituary flagged up by Wynn Chester at the start of this thread is very good. She had a much more interesting career than I ever imagined and a difficult upbringing too with some odd sounding parents. I hadn't realised the extent to which her solitary 'Carry On' appearance actually hampered her career as well as projected her into everyone's imagination. As mias mentions too for a great many she was the seductive yet sinister voice of the tannoy in 'The Prisoner'. I think it would be worth getting her autobiography which I didn't know came out last year. But a good age.

I can't believe she was nearly 40 in 'Carry On Screaming'. She was gorgeous in that. RIP Fenella

She had a similar role to Valeria Watt in 'Carry on Screaming' with her portrayal of Morgana Femm in the truly dreadful Hammer spoof 1962 (released in 1963) remake of 1932 James Whale classic 'The Old Dark House'.
I thought 'Screaming' was her only 'Carry On' movie but she was in 'Regardless' in 1961. I had forgotten she was in that one.

I can't believe she was nearly 40 in 'Carry On Screaming'. Yes, she was 38 when that was made in January-February 1966.

RIP, the OP link on the page really details so much she endured. I'm glad she enjoyed life to the fullest.

Very sad news.
Carry on Screaming!, would definitely be in my top ten of favourite Carry on Films.
Fenella, also appeared in other films, including three films in the Doctor series and the Hammer film The Old Dark House (1963).
Among Fenella's TV credits, were appearances in The Four Just Men, Danger Man, The Avengers and Cribb.
R.I.P. Fenella Fielding.

'Carry on Screaming' is top drawer British comedy and Fenella really helped the film with a truly memorable performance.

I think my favourite film that she starred in would be Doctor In Clover (1966) with the marvellous Arthur Haynes

I think my favourite film that she starred in would be Doctor In Clover (1966) with the marvellous Arthur Haynes That is a quality film indeed. Haynes, in his last film role, is excellent as is Leslie Phillips as Dr Gaston Grimsdyke. Fenella is also very memorable as Tatiana Rubikov.

Absolutely - good film all round, nice tongue in cheek cameos by Terry Scott and Nicky Henson as camp Carnaby Street hairdressers and boutique assistants respectively lol

On the back cover on this month's The Dark Side and Infinity magazines they have Fenella down as one of the guest stars at their 'Carry on Darkfest' event on November 24th.

We think of Carry On's as Sid and Kenneth, but 'Screaming' was Harry and Fenella and they did it brilliantly.

We think of Carry On's as Sid and Kenneth, but 'Screaming' was Harry and Fenella and they did it brilliantly. Sid was due to co-star in the film but:
"Harry H. Corbett replaced Sidney James. Due to illness James had to pull out of the movie and so Corbett was drafted in to replace him. Despite this, his character name Sidney Bung, was kept. Sidney James' characters on TV and film were very often also called Sid, his real life nick-name." *

I hadn't picked up on that - Harry H's character was called 'Sidney'. In lots of Carry On's, Sid James character was indeed called 'Sid'. Strange to say this, but I think that Corbett was more suited to that particular 'Screaming' role than Sid James would have been.
