'Petrocelli' was a 70s US crime/court room drama starring Barry Newman. I only have very vague recollections of this being on in the UK. Having read about this online, I believe the Petrocelli character first appeared in the 1970 film 'The Lawyer' ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0065970/ ) and a series was made thereafter.
I watched the first two episodes of this recently, the pilot episode of the 'Petrocelli' series called 'Night Games' ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0071909/ ) and episode 1 proper called 'The Golden Cage' and thought both of these were pretty good stuff. There is a lot of similarity between the pilot and the first episode, with both stories being centred around a wife who may or may not have killed someone.
Petrocelli (Barry Newman) is a former New York lawyer who moves to the countryside with his wife. He upholds the law and is faced with corruption in the sticks and has to pull out all the straws to ensure justice is served. He works to find out the evidence to prove innocence or guilt and has a hired ex-cop working for him called Pete Ritter. Petrocelli is not afraid of getting his own hands dirty in the pursuit of justice.
The thought of this being branded as 'court room drama' put me off initially but having seen two of them, there is a certain amount of time in the court room but there is also a lot of time spent out on locations and quite a lot of flashback scenes, which makes this all very worth a watch. I think fans of US 70s shows like 'The Rockford Files', 'Harry O', SWAT, 'Cannon', 'Kojak' and 'The Streets of San Francisco' will probably enjoy this show as its very much in the same vein.
There seems to be quite a few famous boats in this, with Stefanie Powers showing up in the pilot episode (she also appears in a later episode too) and Morgan Woodward (a ubiquitous US TV boat) as a corrupt cop in the first episode called 'The Golden Cage'.
I would rate the first two episodes a clear 8/10, very enjoyable 70s US TV with shooters, pretty American ladies (actress Joanna Cameron in the pilot episode is babe factor 2000), corrupt cops, a few car chases and some nasty bad guys with too many dollars.
The series has been available on DVD for some time in the US and was released for the German market (with English soundtrack) recently too but it ain't cheap online: amzn.to/2IjRkDz
