Nicholas Day showed up in series 15, episode 50 called 'Critical Mass' in 1999.
A bomb has been placed at Sun Hill by a disturbed young man called Ben Wallace. When the device is set to go off, Sun Hill evacuates and the hunt is on to find Wallace's whereabouts as soon as possible.
The trail leads to his parents Frank and Helen. Nick Day plays the part of Frank who explains he has not seen his son for many years until earlier that day when he saw him at a distance in a shop.
Meanwhile back at the station, prisoners are being bundled into police vans and shipped off to Barton Street while an attempt to diffuse the bomb is underway.
Any more information on this episode and it will have to include spoilers but I must say this is an excellent episode, with a real nasty twist at the end.
Nick is on absolutely top form in this episode and has quite a bit of screen time from about half way in.
8/10 - if you get a chance to watch this one episode, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Another bonus in this episode for Minder fans is an appearance by actor Leo Dolan as Peter Yates - he played the infamous Yoyo Pickles in Minder's 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Worst Enemy'.

I agree that this was a terrific episode. It is hard to believe it is nearly 20 years ago. I thought The Bill around 1998-2000 was always well worth watching and it is good to see that it is being repeated on UK Drama. In my view it has stood the test of time well.
