Very sad to report the news of the passing of one of my favourite authors. He died of cancer on the 24th of January, aged 71, which I was unaware of, until today. Gutted.
Born: Dallas William Mayr, he was mostly famous for writing horror and thriller fiction, learning his craft from Robert Bloch, his mentor.
His first novel 'Off Season' was highly controversial, for it's depictions of sexual violence and cannibalism, and as a result no publishing house would touch him for a while after. Eventually though people lightened up and he became very famous and even critically acclaimed for his often excellent and thought provoking work.
I have reviewed numerous of his books on here and I thoroughly recommend you read him (if you haven't already). The fact he rarely offered up quite what the reader was expecting, was always a joy.
RIP Jack. You will be sadly missed by this fan of your fiction.
