No mention of Jimmy Nail in The Car Lot Baggers? I’ve still got no idea where he was supposed to be from!
Being from Liverpool, I can generally tell when someone is putting on a Scouse accent. The only decent one I can remember was Robert Carlyle in Cracker - his was very good. On that subject, it really annoys me that John Bishop, despite being from Liverpool, really exaggerates his accent as he doesn’t talk like that in real life. I think he tries to out-Scouse Jamie Carragher who really does talk like that.
Robert Carlyle's accent in Cracker was brilliant. Especially since he is not anything like a Scouser. I remember reading at the time that he got so deeply into the character he lived the role all the time and somebody rang him up in the middle of the night just to see if he would keep it up, which he did.
The Russian accents in The Fourth Protocol, particularly from Ned Beatty and Ray Mcanally were really bad. I was wondering for ages if they were purposefully not doing Russian accents? Still none the wiser.
