Mary Reilly is a dark fantasy, romance film set in Victorian times starring Julia Roberts and John Malkovich as the lead characters. John Malkovich plays Dr. Jekyll who hires members of the household to help him in this house as he continues his research however as the popular tale is known, he transforms into Mr. Hyde, someone who finds and kills people around his town. The movie focuses on the central character Mary Reilly who becomes Dr. Jekyll's interest of working yet Mr. Hyde's love interest. Mary Reilly is a 1996 movie based of a popular novel released in 1990 that seemed to have quickly faded away.
This movie also stars George Cole shortly following the last episode of Minder in 1994. He plays a character named Mr.Pool, a hired head who helps run the house of Dr. Jekyll and is also hired to look out for the workers as Dr. Jekyll works on his research.
It's a story of Mary Reilly influence onto Dr Jekyll yet Mr Hyde's troubles appears and mix into the interaction between them. George Cole adapt into the role, as his character plays a like-me-hate-me character, where would often punish Mary Reilly's behaviour for what he sees stepping over the mark trying to take care of Dr. Jekyll while the audience would know she would have nothing to do with those troubles in the film. Dr. Jekyll tries distracting him also sometimes. It's strongly possible he also aware about Dr. Jekyll's spilt personality also, so he may be playing dumb, so I find that very interesting having seen how that works into the film after I watched it. I would guess the majority of the audience would dislike Mr.Poole or they would laugh and other would understand why he cares, it's plays a big part in the movie how Mary Reilly performs when being with Dr. Jekyll.
Also, maybe he really needed a break looking after Ray in Minder and wanted to look after Julia Robert's character instead. It didn't do well at the box office, maybe why it doesn't appear on television as much because it's not a popular movie which is a shame but believe I strongly believe consider it's a film with George Cole following Minder, which holds my interest.
The DVD I bought, didn't work at all on my computer where I watch all my stuff. I had to use my PlayStation 3 to watch it. So be careful if anyone wants to purchase the DVD.
