Entertained several generations of youngsters. Indeed. I loved the short cartoons when I was younger, always shown last in the childrens TV section, before the news iirc and Book junior is very fond of the Paddington film that was released a few years back. RIP.

As an American I was unaware of Paddington Bear until I was an adult. I have never read the books but I did enjoy the animated series a great deal even though I was well past the age of the target audience. Paddington is such a wonderful character that will continue to endure.

Sad news - but as said,a good innings. Hard to believe he was 50 something in the 70's! Like Barry the Book said,a good & one of the better 5 minute finishing programmes from the old BBC children tea time schedule. I had an annual one year - think it was 79! RIP

Creating something like Paddington Bear that entertains generations and remains popular for decades and will continue to do so , is quite a legacy.

I was sad when I read of his passing as a big fan of Paddington Bear, probably brought about, as so many others have remembered on here, by the 70s cartoon on the BBC.
I have read a lot of the books too which have a timeless quality about them and are really well done. Enjoyed reading a few to my kids over the years also.
RIP
