Someone at work just told me . The first James Bond I ever watched and one I grew up with. He was my brother's favourite. His best 007 films were Live & Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only. I reckon Diamonds Are Forever would have suited his style to a tee.

Holy sh*t - that's a bolt out of the blue. I'm watching The Saint on ITV4 at the moment. One of my biggest heroes. I'm absolutely gutted.

Very sad indeed, one of the very rare actors I knew I'd be upset about when they passed on. I was only watching The Man With The Golden Gun on ITV the other day. Truly the last of the old school greats and I've heard so many stories from different sources about how nice he was to everyone. One of our era's icons, one of my favourite actors and my favourite Bond by far, I've recently enjoyed watching The Saint and The Persuaders too.

Sad day. My first Bond film was Live and Let Die, so an affinity with Roger Moore, who by all accounts, was a gentleman and a thoroughly decent person. Read on set that extras, technicians and caterers were treated with courtesy and respect by him. RIP Roger

What a bad day 23rd May 2017 has been for so many people for many different reasons - this sort of rounds it off in terms of utter ****ness. James Bond has gone. Incredibly sad news this - how many TV shows and films have we seen with the great man in it? Ever the joker on set so I have read and was once told by Mr Glynn Edwards. RIP Roger Moore

Sad news. I was just thinking the other day that I haven't watched any of his Bond movies or The Wild Geese in awhile. I always liked the way he didn't take himself too seriously and his self-deprecating sense of humor. He left us with a lot of fine entertainment that will continue to be enjoyed for a long time to come. Rest In Peace Mr. Moore and Thank You.

Was at work and somebody told me. Gutted!
The man was above being a legend. His services to charity were never ending. Nobody had a bad word ever to say about Sir Roger. A true gentleman and I am so pleased I saw his show at Truro a couple of years back. Sir Roger was a wonderful human being who didn't have a bad bone in his body. He rarely spoke ill of anyone. I think I can only recall him saying he disliked three actors in his whole life.
I didn't think Sir Sean Connery would outlive Sir Roger but cancer is an indiscriminate killer.
RIP Sir Roger (Simon Templar, James Bond and Lord Brett Sinclair)

A British screen great. One of the biggest stars we ever produced in the 20th century. I'm sure he had an ego but he was also one of those self deprecating fellows, that always appreciated the luck in his career and never seemed to have a bad word for anyone. I know Sir Roger was knocking on a bit but that doesn't change how hollow this news makes me feel. I think we just lost one of the last of the good guys. Rubbish news. James Bond RIP. Thanks for the memories.

I had the pleasure of working with Roger 20 years ago on what was little more than a student film project. He was generous with his time, took interest in what we were doing to make it the best possible work and didn't learn just his lines but knew the script, back to front. An immensely talented yet modest man. Like golfer, Arnold Palmer who passed last year, they do not make them like him anymore. RIP, Roger.

Very sad news indeed.
A true film and TV legend, Roger, was my first James Bond, and one of my all time favourite Actors.
Also one of my favourite Simon Templars (the other two being George Sanders and Ian Ogilvy).
The Man Who Haunted Himself, is one of my all time favourite films.
I can remember seeing, Sir Roger, when he came to the Norwich Theatre Royal, an unforgettable evening.
R.I.P. Sir Roger Moore.

He appeared to be a top bloke and after reading his autobiography last year, he really came across as was a guy who lived life to the full, the only other actor I could compare him with is his old mucker David Niven in that they lived life to the full, but always took time out to ensure the little folk behind the scenes were treated with respect and dignity, the sign of true class.
Sad news and even more sad is the fact the announcement was made on the day we are all hearing about the events in Manchester, in which a lot of kids appeared to have died too, which is all the more sadder when you think that childrens charities was something which was close to his heart.
RIP

Daz's comments reminded me of a story about producer Cubby Broccoli taking it upon himself to cook a meal of spaghetti for the cast and crew of The Spy Who Loved Me while on location in Egypt when there was some foul up with the catering. There is a photo of Broccoli serving the food with a smiling Roger Moore next to him helping out.
Roger Moore was a class act on and off the screen.

I don't think life on a film set was ever dull when Roger was around, always playing practical jokes to liven up the atmosphere. I think 'The Persuaders!' shows the greatest on screen chemistry between two leading actors in any TV series ever. Sad to think that both Lord Brett and Danny are now both up there somewhere chasing the girls and driving fast cars.

Very sad news. My favourite 007 and I've recently been rewatching The Saint and The Persuaders, RM is excellent in both rolls. Wild Geese has already been mentioned, another film i rate highly is 'The Man Who Haunted Himself'......one could go on and on.
Rip Sir Roger.

I saw his show in Southport last year and I'm gutted I didn't upgrade to a meet and greet. Sir Roger rarely spoke bad of anyone, though he did say one of his favourite Bond moments was seeing Grace Jones getting blown up and I think that says more about her. I read an interview with Annette Andre recently, where she told of a director on The Saint being harsh with her and Roger sorting him out. Will be sad for a while.

I might possibly shell out for Crossplot. Made in 1969, I believe it was sort of a dry run for his James Bond role and he even wears a tux in it. Might also watch The Man Who Haunted Himself.

Loved these words written by a fan this week: '‘And now those sands of time have taken our greatest James Bond from us. To paraphrase Moore’s Bond nemesis Drax, this time has come “with the horrible inevitability of an unloved season”. I cannot help but hope Roger Moore has already strolled into a gargantuan hotel bar by the pearly gates – one designed by Ken Adam, orchestrated by John Barry, directed by Guy Hamilton and with all drinks on Cubby Broccoli. Forever a gent. Forever Bond. Forever Moore. Thank you, sir.’ Mark O’Connell is the author of Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond Fan' I recorded a special episode of our Spybrary Podcast last night where we talk about Sir Roger's work as well as some of the tributes that have been left for him. Remembering Sir Roger Moore 'For Your Ears Only'

Sir Roger was one of the central figures in the classic TV-era.
I personally liked him best in 'The Persuaders' which I thought had the edge over 'The Saint'. It could easily have run for much longer (as it was intended to), but other events took over.
R.I.P. Sir Roger. He was, indeed, a Saint.

It appears he had quite a dry sense of humour, some of the quotes attributed to him via the link below made me laugh out loud: www.BBC.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40017148It looks like the wit he brought to Bond was far closer to real Sir Roger than I ever gave him credit. RIP Sir Roger...
