I know its short notice but tonight's episode features Anthony Valentine who appeared in two early episodes of Minder, namely 'Aces High and Sometimes Very Low' and'You Lose Some You Win Some' playing Maurice Michelson. I haven't seen him in anything since then so it will be nice to see what he looks/sounds like now, 25 years on.

New Tricks is doing great in the ratings, for week ending May 22 2005 its at 7.44 million that gives it second place on BBC 1 to EastEnders with 9.45. With the massive loss to East Enders ratings recently it could easily beat it. (Its beaten Match Of The Day, Eurovision, DR. Who and Holby City).
On the subject of Anthony Valentine, I remember him playing a camp butler in 'The Detectives' (Jasper Carrott/Robert Powell) I'm 90% sure he was butler to a character played by Rula Lenska.

I was just thinking, if they do another series of New Tricks and from the ratings I'm sure they will, I would'nt mind betting they get George Cole for an episode I'm sure he and Dennis would be up for it.
I really enjoyed the first season of "New Tricks" (currently being shown for the second time here in Canada, Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m., then repeated Thursday mornings at 12:30 a.m.) and I really can't wait to see Anthony Valentine's 2nd season episode (getting the new episodes starting the last Wednesday of September) although I heard he played a villain and wasn't nice at all to Gerry Standing (ordered him beat up).
Patrick Malahide starred in the latest episode of New Tricks (8/5/06). He played a gangster who had murdered James Bolam's snout. He was excellent as ever. He only had one scene with Dennis, but managed to give him quite a beating towards the end.
Hope every Minder fan tuned into BBC1 last night to see the reunion of George and Dennis in last nights episode. They had a good few scenes together its hard to believe its been a couple of years short of 20 since they last worked together on screen. I am a fan of New Tricks and did'nt think last nights episode was one of the best to date but just to see two legends of the screen was well worth it. Fair play to the BBC in reuniting this partnership even it if was only a one off.
Another reunion in the same episode was the "Stay Lucky" duo of Dennis and Jan Francis.
That would have been an interesting drinking session after shooting to be sitting in on talking about old times!!
It was brilliant to see. I was delighted to see George looking so well. I've never watched a whole NT episode but I enjoyed the story.
There is no reason at all that a Minder reunion couldn't be filmed. Like Auf Weidesein Pet it would probably take the BBC to make it though. Unless Michael Grade gets in there and really shakes up ITV like he needs to do.
Yes it was great to see George and Dennis back in action. I'm so glad George had a decent role with plenty of dialogue. I couldn't help but think "didn't Arthur do well" when the first shot of George showed him sitting in a very opulent office!
I loved the moment when George held his hand up to Dennis too! I've said it so many times before but I still think George and Dennis could still play Arthur and Terry. George was looking great last night, it's good to see him playing a captain of industry rather than an old man living in a retirement home whose character very sadly dies on screen.
The casting of Jan Francis was very clever too as of course apart from Stay Lucky, Terry pulls Jan in a supermarket in Life In the Fast Food Lane. Her father played by Boon's David Dakar is a very similar character to Sir Edwards Chambers.
All in all a great treat for all Minder fans. Interestingly, when I first saw last night's episode I thought it wasn't one of the better New Tricks script wise but on second viewing I thought it was great.
I completely agree that both George and Dennis could reprise their roles as Arthur and Terry. This could easily be done of course Terry won't be in the front line as a minder but the possibilities for Terry coming back from Oz and working in London are countless. We need a bring em back pertition that ITV needs to be aware of.
This is now being shown on both UKDrama and UKGold ;D ;D ;D ;D
I have just watched a repeat of the very first episode of New Tricks and realised that the corrupt ex police officer is none other than Inspector Soames (Michael Culver) from that classic courtroom episode "Poetic Justice, Innit?"
Soames, a tall, thin, very droll man with big glasses, takes over for Chisholm whilst he attends court and of course, unbeknown to Chisholm, Arfur is on jury duty for his case.
Great line where Chisholm is bleating to Jones about Soames "he'd nick one of us!!!" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Caught the ending of another New Tricks on UKGold and I am sure the actor who played Ted in the 1984 Christmas special "Around The Corner" was in it.
He was one of the two conmen who were supposedly selling Arfur and "Tasty" some new, boxed video recorders.
The scenes constantly switching from Chisholm/Jones and Rycott/Mellish are hilarious and then having them crashing into one another in front of Arfur and Tel is PRICELESS ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
You write "Soames, a very droll man"....can you explain to me (being German) the meaning of droll? AFAIR Arthur uses that quite regularly, too ("Very droll, Terry") ... I never found it in an dictionary...
There's no school like the old school, and I'm the f*ckin' headmaster !
just watched the New Tricks episode about the art forgeries at Buckingham Palace.
Gerry(Dennis), realises the team are going to visit the palace and guess what?, its the only day he is not wearing a suit, he then utters Arfurs immortal "oh my gawd" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I liked and watched 'New Tricks' until James Bolam left. I think it's a programme that has gone on for too long especially as Dennis Waterman is leaving (the last of the original cast left). Amanda Redman left saying it had become bland and James Bolam said it had gone stale.
Amanda Redman left saying it had become bland and James Bolam said it had gone stale.
I think that's true, and the plots are becoming ever more convoluted and incredible to try and maintain a degree of novelty. I saw one of the later ones about London's rivers which seemed to rely on the kind of psycho-geographical mumbo jumbo peddled by the likes of Iain Sinclair and Peter Ackroyd. The script writer deserves a certain amount of praise working this kind of stuff into a police procedural story featuring a bunch of retired detectives but it didn't ever strike me as remotely believable or particularly interesting.
I liked the one where Gerry and Steve went up to Scotland though...
I haven't watched this for years. For me it was pretty good up until the one in the car park where James Bolam finally got his wife's killer. If there was a 'jump the shark' moment it probably didn't happen so obviously on screen until perhaps when the first of the main team left. For me it was around the time just after the Bolam/car park scenes that stale slowly seemed to set in and I started to lose interest in it.
The series has probably gone on too long and I have not bothered watching any since the original 4 started to leave - like many on here argue about 'Minder' - it just can't be the same with the original line up. That is partly true for me with New Tricks, the original 4 golden oldies are the A-Team in this show.

Daley & McCann are, as good as, holding hands, on the exercise yard, in the scrubs.
I enjoyed George Cole's portrayal of Sir Edward Winters in the Series 4 episode Powerhouse. Although, from what I remember, was he even on screen with Waterman in this episode? Was this the last time they appeared together?
Did anybody see the first of the last series of New Tricks last night ? very good I thought, this maybe just me being me but in the first flash back where Gerry "arrests" the fella during the first chase scene did the incidental music sound a bit like The Sweeney title music ?!! as I said it may just be me !!
