This is a psychological thriller where two public schoolboys end up clashing with one another when they are forced to share a room.
When a murder takes place there seems to be far more to the new kid on the block than we first think. Soon we are led through the hidden world of freemasonry and what seems to be witchcraft-type rituals as a criminal psychologist interviews the main suspect and establishes what seems to some sort of motive.
This has a host of acting talent on display - Eddie Redmayne, Tom Sturridge and Toni Collette. Patrick Malahide has quite a substantial part in this film playing the school headmaster and father of the main character Alex Forbes.
Personally, on the whole I found this film very entertaining. It drags a little bit in parts and is pretty long at 1 hour 44 minutes. Nevertheless, despite its longevity I was pretty fixated up until the end to find out what happens. There is an attempt to introduce a bit of twist at the end of the film which personally I thought didn't really work too well.
7/10 - as always Patrick Malahide is on top form in this with a very decent Scottish accent on show. This is all set in Britain (despite parts being filmed in Australia) and I definitely think everyone needs to give this at least 1 viewing. This a LOT more than a simple whodunnit thriller and might actually need a second viewing to fully get what it's all about.
