The wily old Cuban leader bites the dust. In History at school, we had to submit a piece of work for my final exams, and I got The Cuban Missile Crisis. Great. Actually, I found it fascinating going back to the failed U.S Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961, up till Kruschev not holding his nerve on the warships in 1962. I digress. Once Fidel had total control, he was like Mugabe... power crazed. Now he's gone, I hope Cuban boxers can turn professional, and Havana get some decent cars on its roads.

Hard to say much about the man without going into politicl territory, so I shall refrain.

He had a good innings. Outlived a hell of a lot of US Presidents.
RIP

I also did 'The Cuban Missile Crisis' at school ace5150. I must say though, great leader or oppressive dictator? Politics is here thus I'm with daz on this one ... no comment.

Then you'll know after overthrowing Batista and setting up a socialist regime, turning it communist, Geuvara wanted to go to South America to continue the 'struggle'. Castro sold out and stayed in luxury in Cuba. Che Guevara was killed in 1967, a revolutionary till the end.

He bottled it like Hargreaves in the Sweeney episode 'Taste Of Fear'. He was a coward who begged for his life after being captured. He told his Bolivian captors he was worth more to them alive than dead. It didn't work as they executed him anyway.

He was loved and loathed in equal doses, depending which side of the fence you sat.
In the grand scheme of things he was small fry. The missile crisis only came to the fore because of Cuba's geographical location to the US.
No respect for dictators I'm afraid.

Castro was furious at the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He felt totally abandoned by the USSR without nuclear missiles in his country. But it's testament to the willingness of both the USA and the USSR that Cuba never again became a potential world destruction button.
Castro did great things in coming to power. But once in power, Cuba went backwards. It was not helped by decades of US sanctions of course, something rarely mentioned and overlooked by western media.
If it seems 2016 was a bad year, 1962 was far worse. This was the year where the world nearly came to an end. Just think if that happened. The Sweeney and Minder would never have been made and thus no Minder fan forum.

Arthur sells 100% clean water (really it's radioactive) and Terry battles 4 armed mutants.
