A really good actor, loved him in the BBC programme Hustle a few years back, amongst numerous other roles he played.

Just heard this on the news. Sad news. The Magnificen Seven is one on my all time favorite movies. I'm also a big fan of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. he was a very fine actor equally skilled at playing heroes and villians. Here in the US he became a fixture on tv for playing what he call three piece suit villains. Rich, arrogant SOBs on shows such as Columbo.
Don't forget he was also in The Protectors and the last year of The A-Team.
Rest In Peace Mr. Vaughn. Thank you for all the entertainment.

Lots of good performances as noted above. I'd just like to add that his disillusioned German officer in The Bridge at Remagen was very good too.

Thanks for mentioning it. He was also in Bullitt and his tole there sort of launched his career for playing arrogant b*stards as I mentioned. The first time I saw Bullitt I was hoping McQueen would punch him in the mouth at the end.

RIP Robert Vaughn . He was a member of the Seven, an UNCLE then a Protector. He also gave a terrific performance in Bullitt for which he should have been Oscar nominated IMHO for Best Supporting Actor.

Fair play, who hasn't seen something with him in?
I have so much respect for people like Robert Vaughn who have appealed to so many generations of viewer - The Man from UNCLE, The A-Team, Hustle and The Protectors are particular favourites - superb actor and what memories he has left us.
For me if it had Robert Vaughn in, it was already pretty cool - so much I still haven't seen with him in and a job well done by a truly master actor.
Sad sad news. RIP

Yes Vaughn was in all sorts. A big contributor to film and TV over the years. Other than The Man From UNCLE (for years as a kid I only knew him as Napoleon Solo, and that's what I would call him), the first two productions that sprung to mind were Battle Beyond The Stars and The Mind Of Mr Soames. Which just goes to show his across the board appeal and work rate.

I think people tend to associate him with those kind of roles and also cheeky chappies like Napoleon Solo or Albert from Hustle. His role in Bridge.... seems to be against usual type and the fact he's so good just goes to show what a versatile actor he was.

I have and read Robert Vaughn's autobiography but due to my brain problem I barely remember it. It might be time to pull it out and read it again.

It focuses a lot on his support of the Democrat Party which is no bad thing. Robert Vaughn became friends with Robert Kennedy and was an early supporter of his presidential ambitions. Once while visiting Kennedy's home Vaughn called David McCallum so all the Kennedy kids could talk to him.

I seem to recall Robert being a lifelong Democrat supporter but it has been a long while since I read his autobiography.

I seem to recall Robert being a lifelong Democrat supporter but it has been a long while since I read his autobiography. Vaughn was a lDemocrat. He supported Robert Kennedy instead of the President Johnson who would decide not to run for reelection or Vice President Hubert Humphrrey.

He was widely known in Hollywood for his intellect and sophistication. His thesis on the Hollywood Blacklist of the 1950s was published as Only Victims.

I read this morning that he appeared in COrrie a few years back. Says a lot about the class of the guy that he has done everything he could do in acting and still didn't turn his nose up for a stint in a soap opera and not even a big budget US one either.
They don't make them like that anymore.

Once he became a star, for lack of a better term, he never seems to have been out of work even when he clearly outclassed what he was appearing in.

A true cult actor as well as a mainstream star. He turned up in many things, sometimes where you wouldn't expect.
RIP Robert Vaughn.

I was reading that Robert Vaughn was cast in The A Team because he was a friend of George Peppard and they wanted to diffuse the tension between Peppard and Mr T. He was very good as Hunt Stockwell but it was too late to save the series.

Adding Robert Vaughn did bring me back to The A-Team and he was a fine addition. That newer younger guy was annoying as was the shift in tone to making the series more serious. At the beginging what I liked most was that The A-Team wasn't meant to be taken too seriously. Unfortunetly Vaughn wasn't enough to keep me watching and I gave up on the show again.

Agree on the young guy (pointless!) The new arrangement of the theme tune was inferior too.

A classy and memorable guy. He was a distinct actor that had the charisma that is sadly lacking from many generic male actors these days. RIP
