Creator of Dads Army, one of the finest sitcoms to grace our TVs, has passed away aged 93.
Very sad news.
RIP

Never liked his writing style, apart from Dad's Army - one of my favourite sitcoms of all time. Regardless of whether I'm a fan or not, he wrote comedy that's been a part of British TV heritage.
RIP Jimmy.

RIP Jimmy. I liked 'Dad's Army' but I'm not as fond of his other stuff but I'd rather watch any of his work than the rubbish on TV now.

Never liked 'Ain't Half Hot Mum', Hi-de-Hi, 'Mr. Beeching'... they just make me cringe. With me, always remember sitting on my grandad's lap watching Dad's Army, so it has the nostalgia baggage element to it. My daughter loves it, and it's great watch something where it doesn't cause offence. Still being shown every Saturday evening on BBC 2, almost 40 years after the last episode was aired.

I think that the more i watch Dads Army the better it gets! Absolute classic and one of the best feature length spin offs.
RIP Jimmy.

During a period of ill health in 1996, I watched daily showings of Hi De Hi and thought it was quite good, especially the early series with Simon Cadell but Dad's Army is a great legacy. Did everyone know he wanted to play Pte Walker but wasn't allowed in case he gave himself the best lines.
