Zulu. 1964. Starring Stanley Baker, Jack Hawkins, Nigel Green and a number of familiar actors including a fellow named Michael Caine in his first major film role.
The film is based on the battle of Rorke's Drift.
I'm really surprised this movie didn't already have a thread. An epic film and gripping entertainment. It being based on an historical event heightens the drama. A great film regardless of genre. Sadly it is not as well known in the US as it deserves to be.
Zulu is a 10/10 movie. The BD looks great, there are loads of good extras.
I just checked to see if Zulu was released on Blu-Ray in the US and happily it was. Amusingly the description on Amazon.com claims there were thousands of British soldiers at the battle! I wonder how Stanley Baker and Cy Enfield missed that little fact.
I love Zulu it's a fabulous film. One of the greats. Zulu Dawn is good too. Can anyone confirm if/which copy of Zulu Dawn on Blu Ray is any good? Because my dvd is an old one and rather grainy... I don't care about the region coding just which is the best?
Also has anyone seen that documentary The Mystery Of Zulu Dawn? That sounds like it might be worth a look too.
My uncle Arthur spent his last few years in a nursing home, and one day he handed me a dvd of Zulu dawn that had came free with a newspaper and he said to me "you will really enjoy it" then told me the end of it!
