Fantastic series I never knew existed until recently. I was sick with the flu two weeks ago, and spent several days watching the entire series. It's a mix of comedy and action, with shootouts and hand to hand combat in every episode.
It's a cross between It Takes a Thief and Mission Impossible, with a splash of The Avengers (over the top criminals). A Canadian government agency led by a flirtatious redhead, assembles a 3 person team consisting of a former thief with ties to a Hong Kong crime family; his ex-girlfriend, who is also the ex-girlfriend of the crime lord's son; and her new boyfriend, an ex cop. The series is set and filmed in Vancouver and I was very surprised with how much action was in each of the 22 episodes. All 22 were highly enjoyable, with maybe only 1 weak episode where they tried to spoof the X-Files.
There's constant romantic tension between the two leads vying for the same girl; constant flirting from their boss, who often likes to role play and dress up as a school girl before giving them their assignments; and a female 4th team member was added about halfway through the series.
Was it anything to do with the film of the same title (by John Woo)? I wasn't that impressed by that. It was okay but not his best. Didn't know there was a series.
The TV show has to do with a similar story arc, but only the pilot episode was closer to the film than the rest of the actual episodes, which they turned into a more Mission Impossible type TV show (government agency sending them on assignments). I also didn't care much for the film and think this TV show is much better.
