Althought I couldn't say I was a fan of the guy, he was a good magician and I wouldn't wish a brain tumour on anyone. Another part of my growing up gone RIP

I know. I remember as a kid watching Wizbit on Children's BBC which he presented. Fond memories indeed.

Apologies to you jno. I ended up editing your post by mistake. I was trying to quote and edit it. Whoops.

He hailed from the same area as me, his birthplace is about two miles away.
He never really lost his accent.
RIP Paul Daniels.

Never liked him- he always gave me the same vibe as Savile although of course he obviously wasn't like him he gave me that feeling.

Although I know you mentioned "he wasn't like him", this is still an extreme comparison Mr. Magnum. Let us remember he's brown bread and ideally we should be praising the things he did in an RIP thread and not really comparing him to someone who has become (essentially) public enemy number 1.

Fair enough but just because he is dead does not suddenly make me think he was a wonderful man. He always came across as an odd little man ( my own personal feeling) and if something came out in the press I wouldn't be surprised. But I appologise if it caused offence. For the record the lovely Debbie always seemed nice as did the inscribed fan card she signed and put on Paul's coffin. Would he have liked that? Not a lot!

I have never heard any 'allegations' against him in that sense.
He had been on the local club circuit in the early 70s. Thus there were things said about him when he left the area and went onwards along the fame-seeking path. In the sense that his first marriage had failed and his ex-wife and children lived very modestly.
That said, others in his position with a talent and work-ethic had similar scenarios.

This man was the creator of some of the best illusions of all time. Through the late 70s-80s,he was the writer and host of one of the bbcs mainstream shows. My personel opinion was he was mistreated and dropped by the BBC. As stated by other members he worked the northern circuit for more years than he did on TVs. The man was the magician that put a magic show on prime-time telly. Rip Paul Daniels.
