An LWT series about a female private detective based on some novels. I remember it being shown on a Sunday night and watched one episode where she befriended a boy in trouble. Seemed at the time like an ok show to pass the time with.
"What was I thinking of, hitting him? Nothing. No, I know. I hate him! I hate his guts, I hate everything he stands for with his PACE and his plus and his statements of purpose and his smiling at the punters and his have a nice day! I mean when was the last time he ever nicked anybody, eh? A real villain! When was the last time he ever put himself on the line?"
Based on a series of novels by Liza Cody, who hated it so much she stopped writing them. I think the best that can be said of the TV show is that it was inoffensive. I've read one of the books and recall the main character being a rather tougher proposition than as portrayed by Ms Stubbs.
Fortunetly it did air on a US cable channel. I thought it was ok but don't remember much about it. Brian Glover played an ex-wrestler who was Anna's neighbor. There was a format change on exactly who Anna worked for. I think she worked for a security firm in at least the first episode and then a defective agency but I could be wrong. The series was enjoyable but nothing great. It didn't hurt that Imogen Stubbs was very cute!
Got all of them for ages, they were frequently shown dubbed in our socalled third programs.... had watched some a few months ago and was really surprised how dated this has become. Back in the day I really liked it, today I find it not gritty enough to be really taken seriously.... There were some cool people who starred in it: Jesse Birdsall as that rock singer, Peter Wight as her colleague Bernie or Peter Firth as a client who she falls in love with. Frightening, how well I remember all that....bear with me, I was young.
Imogen herself hasn't changed too much and aged ok:
